The 66th edition of the festival Italian Song Sanremo found in 2016 from 9 to 13 February at the Ariston Theater in Sanremo and was hosted by Carlo Conti moderated, accompanied by the actor Gabriel Garko , the comedienne Virginia Raffaele and the Romanian actress Mădălina Diana Ghenea . The winner of the competition was the band Stadio , who also had the opportunity to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 ; after she refused, however, this office went to the runner-up Francesca Michielin .

organization

General

The festival was organized by the state television station RAI . Conti moderated the festival for the second time and was also the artistic director ( direttore artistico ) of the event. Pinuccio Pirazzoli was responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the stage set was by Riccardo Bocchini and directed by Maurizio Pagnussat .

Press room

The press room ( Sala Stampa ) is the name of the jury made up of radio and TV journalists, who influenced the voting by 50% on the first three evenings.

Expert jury

The jury of experts ( giuria degli esperti ) voted on the fourth and fifth evening, with their vote each accounting for 30% of the overall rating. It was composed of the following people:

Demoscopic jury

The demoscopic jury ( giuria demoscopica ) is a sample of 300 randomly selected music consumers who vote from home using an electronic system. Like the jury of experts, they voted on the fourth and fifth evening and each made up 30% of the rating.

Candidates

In the main Campioni category , 20 candidates competed against each other, 16 of which reached the final. In the newcomer category Nuove Proposte, however, eight candidates competed against each other, four of whom contested the final on the third evening.

The 20 Campioni were proclaimed by Carlo Conti on the television show L'Arena on Rai 1 on December 13, 2015.

Nuove Proposte

On November 27, 2015, the #SG - Sanremo Giovani competition was broadcast on Rai 1 , in which the music jury consisting of Carlo Conti, Piero Chiambretti , Rosita Celentano , Giovanni Allevi , Federico Russo , Carolina Di Domenico and Andrea Delogu , six candidates for the newcomer category. Another two were determined in the preliminary decision Area Sanremo (Miele and Mahmood).

On the opening evening, ten of the 20 Campioni presented their song. The vote was determined by the television audience and 50% by the press room.

    Second evening

    The second evening began with the newcomer competition, in which four of the Nuove Proposte competed in pairs against each other; the respective winner, who was determined 50% by the television audience and 50% by the press room, reached the semi-finals on the fourth evening. The remaining ten Campioni made their appearance.

    The Nuove Proposte competition continued with the four remaining candidates; Again they competed against each other in pairs and fought for the final on the fourth evening. The 20 Campioni, on the other hand, presented cover versions of well-known Italian songs. The vote on the best cover had no influence on the competition itself, but was rewarded with a special prize.

    During the first duel, a technical error occurred which resulted in the votes of the press representatives being counted incorrectly and Miele being wrongly declared the winner. It was not until later that evening that the press vote was repeated, and finally the result was revised.

    Fourth evening

    The four remaining Nuove Proposte made one final appearance; the winner was determined from the four. All 20 Campioni appeared again and faced another vote. The results of the votes on the first, second and fourth evening resulted in the ranking list; the last five candidates were provisionally eliminated. In a final vote, which consisted purely of televoting, one of the five was brought back, with the result not being announced until the next evening.

    Dopofestival

    After the festival, the talk show Dopofestival took place on the first four evenings at Villa Ormond in Sanremo , in which journalists and participants of the festival had their say. The show was moderated by Nicola Savino , with commentary from the comedian group Gialappa's Band ; Comedian Max Giusti also had regular appearances .

    compilation

    A compilation with all participating songs was released during the festival on February 12th under the name Sanremo 2016 . It immediately reached the top of the official compilation charts and also made it to the combined album charts. It held that position for seven weeks, making it the best-selling compilation of the year.
