The 67th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2017 from February 7th to 11th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Carlo Conti and Maria De Filippi . The winner of the competition was Francesco Gabbani , who was also the Italian candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 .

organization

General

The festival was organized by the state television station RAI . Conti moderated the festival for the third time in a row and was also the artistic director ( direttore artistico ) of the event. After a one-off comoderation on one evening of the 2009 festival at the side of Paolo Bonolis , Maria De Filippi was invited for the first time to moderate. In addition, the comedian Maurizio Crozza had a live appearance every evening. Pinuccio Pirazzoli was responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the stage set was by Riccardo Bocchini and directed by Maurizio Pagnussat .

Press room

The press room ( Sala Stampa ) is the name of the jury made up of radio and TV journalists, whose vote on the first three evenings made up 50% of the rating.

Expert jury

The jury of experts ( giuria degli esperti ) voted on the fourth and fifth evening, with their vote making up 30% of the overall rating. It was composed of the following people:

Demoscopic jury

The demoscopic jury ( giuria demoscopica ) is a sample of 300 randomly selected music consumers who vote from home using an electronic system. Like the jury of experts, they voted on the fourth and fifth evening and each made up 30% of the rating.

Candidates

In the main Campioni category , 22 candidates competed against each other, 16 of which reached the final. In the newcomer category Nuove Proposte eight candidates competed against each other, four of them contested the final on the fourth evening.

The 22 Campioni were announced by Carlo Conti in the show Sarà Sanremo on Rai 1 on December 12, 2016.

Nuove Proposte

During the Sarà Sanremo show , the music jury, consisting of Massimo Ranieri , Anna Foglietta , Amadeus , Fabio Canino and Andrea Delogu , selected six candidates out of twelve for the newcomer category. Another two (Valeria Farinacci and Braschi) were determined in the preliminary decision Area Sanremo .

First evening

On the opening evening , eleven of the 22 Campioni presented their song, eight of them qualified directly for the fourth evening. The vote was determined by the television audience and 50% by the press room.

    Second evening

    On the second evening, four of the Nuove Proposte and the remaining eleven Campioni made their appearance. In both cases, 50% of the vote was determined by the television audience and 50% by the press room, whereupon two of the newcomers were definitely eliminated and three of the campioni were classified as endangered.

    Third evening

    The Nuove Proposte competition continued with the four remaining candidates. The 16 permanently qualified Campioni, on the other hand, presented cover versions of well-known Italian songs. Voting on the best cover has no influence on the competition itself, but is awarded a special price. The six remaining candidates reappeared with their competition entry, whereupon four of them were admitted to the fourth evening after a new vote. Two were definitely eliminated.

    Fourth evening

    The four remaining Nuove Proposte made one final appearance; the winner was determined from them. The 20 Campioni appeared again and faced another vote, after which the 16 finalists were determined. 40% of the votes on the fourth evening came from the televoting and 30% from the expert and demoscopic jury each.

    After the 16 finalists had performed with their song, the three candidates with the highest voting results made it to the finals. Only after another round of voting was the winner determined from the remaining three (always by televoting and juries).

    Dopofestival

    After the festival, the talk show Dopofestival took place every evening at Villa Ormond in Sanremo , where journalists and participants of the festival had their say. As in the previous year, the show was moderated by Nicola Savino , with commentary from the comedian group Gialappa's Band . On the third evening u. a. Mark King made an appearance.

    compilation

    A compilation with all participating songs was released on the fourth evening of the festival (February 10) under the title Sanremo 2017 on Universal . It hit the top of the Italian compilation charts straight away , held that position for eight weeks, making it the best-selling compilation of the year.
