The Nomadi (" Nomads ") are an Italian pop-rock band that was founded in 1963. In their over 50 year history, they have released over 40 albums and a variety of compilations.

Band history

The band was founded in 1963 between Reggio Emilia and Modena by keyboardist Beppe Carletti and singer Augusto Daolio. Initially they were supported by Franco Midili (guitar), Leonardo Manfredini (drums), Gualtiero Gelmini (saxophone) and Antonio Campari (bass); Gelmini, Campari and Manfredini left the group after a short time and made room for Bila Coppellini (drums) and Gianni Coron (bass). In 1966, the band made their debut with the single Come potete giudicar , a cover version of Sonny Bono's The Revolution Kind , which was well received and made it possible for Nomadi to appear on TV several times. The meeting with Francesco Guccini , who played with the group and wrote several songs for them, was significant , such as Noi non ci saremo and above all Dio è morto , with whom they attracted great attention in 1967: the song was boycotted by the state radio, by radio Vatican sent however. The group was also given the opportunity to be the first Italian pop band to perform in the Vatican.

With increasing popularity, the band released several successful singles in the following years and gave countless concerts, always accompanied by a loyal fan base. In 1971 she took part in the Sanremo Festival for the first time, together with Mal and the song Non dimenticarti di me , but did not make it to the final. In 1972 she had a number one hit with Io vagabondo . In 1980 a joint live album was released with Guccini, album concerto . At the beginning of the 80s, bassist Dante Pergreffi took the place of Umberto Maggi, who in turn acted as the group's producer from then on. In 1990 guitarist Cico Falzone and drummer Daniele Campani also joined and replaced Chris Dennis and Paolo Lancelotti. Two tragic deaths occurred in 1992: bassist Pergreffi was killed in a road accident in May, while frontman Augusto Daolio died in October after a brief illness. Initially in a mood of dissolution, the band formed anew with Elisa Minari (bass), Danilo Sacco (vocals and guitar) and Francesco Gualerzi (vocals and saxophone), continued to give concerts and released the album Contro , which had been recorded with singer Daolio.

In Chile, the Nomadi performed with the Inti-Illimani group at the end of 1993 . After the album La settima onda , the group went to Cuba in 1994, where they brought musical instruments to schools as part of a relief mission. Back in Italy, the band was received in Bologna by the Dalai Lama , who was visiting Italy. In July 1995 the new album Lungo le vie del vento was released . The band also got involved with a number of aid organizations, including Greenpeace , Amnesty International and Emergency . In 1996 Quando ci sarai was released , and in 1997 the double live album Le strade, gli amici, il concerto , which reached number three in the charts. With the new members Massimo Vecchi and Sergio Reggioli (for Minari and Gualerzi) the album Una storia da raccontare followed in 1998 , and in 1999 the compilation SOS con rabbia e con amore . The line-up was changed again, with Beppe Carletti (keyboard), Daniele Campani (drums), Cico Falzone (guitar), Danilo Sacco (vocals and guitar), Massimo Vecchi (vocals and bass) and Sergio Reggioli (percussion, violin and whistle ) the album Liberi di volare was released in 2000 .

In 2002 the band organized the event Nomadincontro - X Tributo ad Augusto Daolio in honor of their former frontman . Then she succeeded with Amore che prendi amore che dai for the first time a number one album. After the compilation Nomadi 40 (2003), the studio album Corpo estraneo was released in 2005 . In 2006 the band returned to the Sanremo Festival after 35 years and presented the song Dove si va , with which they won the group category and took second place in the overall ranking. The album Con o contro di me followed . During her tour in 2007 Biagio Antonacci invited her to the opening of one of his concerts in San Siro . At the end of the year the band released a live album in collaboration with Bruno Santori's Omnia Orchestra , which was recorded at two concerts in Brescia . With Allo specchio a new studio album was released in 2009; shortly afterwards the band had to take a break because singer Danilo Sacco had health problems. But he recovered and in 2010 the Nomadi again took part in the Sanremo Festival, where they accompanied Irene Fornaciari at Il mondo piange , and achieved sixth place.

Sacco continued to fail at various concerts; At the end of 2010 the cover album Racconti raccolti was released . In 2011 the band's contract with Warner ended , after which it was decided to remain independent and produce the following albums themselves. The first album was then Cuore vivo , on which the band re-recorded their own songs from 1967–1977. Then singer Sacco announced his final exit. He was replaced in 2012 by the young Cristiano Turato. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Daolio's death, the band published the compilation È stato bellissimo and began the Ricordarti tour . Carletti also organized the Concerto per l'Emilia at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara in Bologna in June , in response to the earthquake in northern Italy . Later the album Terzo tempo appeared , for the first time with Turato as the singer. 2013 was the 50th anniversary of the band; On this occasion, Carletti published the book Io vagabondo - 50 anni di vita con i Nomadi in collaboration with the journalist Andrea Moranti , the band also gave several anniversary concerts and published the multi-part compilation Nomadi 50 in newspaper supplements . In 2014, former drummer Lancelotti died; a little later another compilation appeared with Nomadi 50 + 1 .

In 2017, the singer Yuri Cilloni took the place of Turato.
