Giorgia Todrani (born April 26, 1971 in Rome ), better known exclusively by her first name Giorgia , is an Italian singer , songwriter and radio presenter . She won the Sanremo Festival in 1995 .

Career

Giorgia grew up in a family of musicians, her father Giulio Todrani was a successful singer in the 1970s. At the age of 16 she began her vocal training with the tenor Luigi Rumbo. She then gained experience as a background singer and performing with the popular group Vorrei la pelle nera in the clubs of her hometown. In 1993 she qualified with Nasceremo at Sanremo Giovani for the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival 1994 , where she made her debut with E poi and reached seventh place. The first album Giorgia, which was released immediately afterwards, was already a considerable success. Just a few months later, she brought Luciano Pavarotti to his Pavarotti & Friends show, where she sang with Pavarotti.

In 1995 , now in the main category, Giorgia won the Sanremo Festival. The winning title Come saprei , which she wrote together with Eros Ramazzotti , also earned her the critical award . She then released the second album Come Thelma & Louise , which reached number two in the charts. Andrea Bocelli , who also competed in the newcomer category at the Sanremo Festival in 1994, recorded the song Vivo per lei for the album Bocelli in 1995 in a duet with Giorgia . At her third appearance in Sanremo in 1996 , the singer took third place with Strano il mio destino ; their third album Mangio troppa cioccolata was produced by Pino Daniele and was able to reach number one in the charts for the first time.

After the 1999 album Girasole , Giorgia returned to Sanremo in 2001 and came in at number two; Zucchero was also a co-author of her contribution Di sole e d'azzurro . This was followed by the album Senza ali , produced by the American Michael Baker . The single Vivi davvero announced the release of the singer's first greatest hit, Le cose non vanno mai come credi , in 2002 . It earned Giorgia second number one placement and ushered in a long series of concerts. She also sang with Ronan Keating in We've Got Tonight .

In 2003 Giorgia landed a number one hit with Gocce di memoria . The song (written together with Andrea Guerra ) formed the title song of the film Das Fenster opposite by Ferzan Özpetek and found its way into the number one album Ladra di vento together with the following single Spirito libero . Two years later she was the first Italian performer ever to record a concert in the MTV Unplugged series . With the studio album Stonata Giorgia reported back in 2007; the album also included the duet Poche parole with Mina . In that year, the singer also began working as a radio presenter in her own program on Rai Radio 2 .

In 2008 not only the EP Giorgia - Live alla Casa del Jazz , recorded during a jazz concert of the singer, was released, but also the Best-of Spirito libero consisting of three CDs . After the earthquake in L'Aquila in 2009 , Giorgia took part in both the charity single Domani 21/04/2009 and in the charity initiative Amiche per l'Abruzzo , a concert by around 90 Italian singers (including Gianna Nannini , Laura Pausini and Elisa ) in San Siro ; In 2010 the charity single Donna d'Onna was released . In 2009 Giorgia was also involved in Gianna Nannini's number one hit Salvami . In 2010 Giorgia became a mother for the first time.

Il mio giorno migliore introduced the new album Dietro le apparenze in 2011 , produced by Michele Canova Iorfida and with the participation of Eros Ramazzotti and Jovanotti . It was able to reach the top of the chart again. This was followed in 2013 by Senza paura (including a duet with Alicia Keys ) and in 2016 by Oronero , both produced by Canova. In 2018 the cover album Pop Heart was released , on which Giorgia songs by u. a. Whitney Houston , Tiziano Ferro , Pino Daniele , Eurythmics and Vasco Rossi reinterpreted.
