Domani 04/21/2009 is a charity single from the supergroup Artisti Uniti per l'Abruzzo, which was formed for the occasion in 2009. The proceeds from the project went to the victims of the L'Aquila earthquake . The song is a cover version of Mauro Pagani's Domani from his 2003 album of the same name.

The song had its radio premiere on May 6, 2009 at 3:32 a.m., exactly one month after the earthquake. It reached the top of the Italian singles chart and held that position for twelve weeks, making it the best-selling single of the year.

Background and origin

On April 6, 2009, a severe earthquake occurred in Abruzzo , killing more than 300 people. To help rebuild the city of L'Aquila , musician Jovanotti took the initiative and contacted Giuliano Sangiorgi, the frontman of the band Negramaro .

“We asked ourselves what we could do, because for the first time the images shown on television no longer seemed far away, but very close and painful. At first we thought of a concert, but in the face of such a tragedy that seemed too left out. So we decided to record a song and bring in Mauro [Pagani] as a producer "

- Giuliano Sangiorgi

Mauro Pagani was quickly convinced to come on board. In the days that followed, over 50 other musicians were won over to the initiative. However, some had to cancel, including Ivano Fossati , Fiorella Mannoia , and Subsonica , as it was not possible for them to come to Milan at short notice to record the song, where all the recordings were made on April 21, 2009 in the Officine Meccaniche Recording Studio . Jovanotti and Sangiorgi described the atmosphere during the recording as “happy and creative, just like we were a group of students. It was like a demonstration. A historic day, or rather a dream of a day ”.
