Giuseppa Gaetana "Giusy" Ferreri (born April 17, 1979 in Palermo ) is an Italian pop singer .

Career

In her youth, Giusy Ferreri learned the piano, played the guitar and took singing lessons. Since she was a teenager, she sang one after the other in bands of different styles, including Allstate51 . From the 2000s she tried harder to start her own career and in 2005 she released a first single on the BMG label entitled Il party under the stage name Gaetana , her middle name, but it did not become a lasting success.

In 2008 she took part in the television casting show X Factor . She made it to the finals, where she finished second behind the Aram Quartet . As part of the show, Ferreri released the song Non ti scordar mai di me , written by Tiziano Ferro and Roberto Casalino . It quickly reached the top of the Italian single charts and stayed there for twelve weeks, and it was also successful in Switzerland. The EP of the same name with six tracks, including the X Factor successful cover Remedios (originally sung by Gabriella Ferri ), also reached the top of the chart and was an enormous sales success. Another number one success was granted to the song Novembre . At the end of the year, the singer's first studio album, Gaetana, was released.

Ferreri's second album Fotografie was released in 2009 and contained eleven cover versions, including Ma il cielo è semper più blu by Rino Gaetano . At the same time her former label released the unofficial album Supermarket on the market, the older contained by the singer recorded songs; a legal action by the singer against this publication was unsuccessful. In 2010 Ferreri received the European Border Breakers Award . Her participation in the 2011 Sanremo Festival was also announced. There she went into the race with the song Il mare immenso , but did not get beyond tenth place in the final. The album Il mio universo was then released .

After a brief withdrawal from the public, the singer returned in 2014 with her second participation in the Sanremo Festival . There she presented the songs L'amore possiede il bene and Ti porto a cena con me and finally reached ninth place with the latter. The album L'attesa was then released . In 2015, Ferreri and Baby K achieved the summer hit and the most successful song of the year, Roma-Bangkok (produced by Takagi & Ketra ). In the same year she published her first compilation Hits , with the unpublished song Volevo te .

At the Sanremo Festival 2017 , Ferreri did not reach the finals with Fa talmente male , the album Girotondo followed , of which the song Partiti adesso became a smaller hit. In the summer of 2018, however, she returned to the top of the chart together with Takagi & Ketra and the rapper Sean Kingston with the summer hit Amore e capoeira ; The song also reached the top three of the charts in Switzerland. In 2019 she continued the collaboration with Takagi & Ketra and presented Jambo , this time with the participation of Omi .
