Omi (* 3. September 1986 in May Pen , Clarendon , real name Omar Samuel Pasley ) is a Jamaican reggae - and Urban Pop - singer .

biography

Omar's father, Kenroy Pasley, was known as a portrait painter and musician by the name of Jah Ken. He died when Omar, the youngest of his four children, was nine years old. From early childhood on, Omar also sang at school and public events and at times also tried his hand at school as a rapper.

When producer Clifton "Specialist" Dillon (including Shabba Ranks ) visited his high school on a talent search, he was also introduced to Omar Pasley. He later signed the singer, who also writes his own songs, from him for the Shang Records label . His first single Standing on All Threes was released in 2011 under the stage name Omi . Other publications he wrote were Firecracker and Cheerleader .

The latter song gave him his breakthrough and sparked interest beyond the country's borders. This was followed by appearances in other countries on the American continent and in Australia and in 2014 he was signed to the Sony Music- owned US label Ultra Music . Remix versions of cheerleaders were created , including one by Hamburg DJ Felix Jaehn . After Omi had performed several times in Europe, he was included in the program of radio stations in France and Sweden. The song hit the charts in Sweden and reached number one and gold status in early November . In December, this was followed by first place in Denmark and, from 2015, Australia and other European countries. The single sold over a million times in Germany alone, making the piece one of the best-selling singles in Germany .
