Busy Signal (real name Glendale Goshia Gordon ; born January 24, 1982 in St. Ann , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist.

Life

Glendale Goshia Gordon grew up in Tivoli Gardens , a district of Kingston .

He became known under his stage name Busy Signal with his first single Step Out , which in 2005 was one of the most famous dancehall songs. A music video for the song appeared a short time later. His debut album of the same name was released on July 27, 2008 on Greensleeves Records .

His friends gave him the stage name Busy Signal ("busy signal" for the busy tone when telephoning) because he is constantly busy.

In 2005 and 2008 Busy Signal brought out his most famous songs. These are Jail , Badman Place (with Mavado ), Tic Toc, and Unknown Number . On September 22, 2008, Busy Signal released his second music album Loaded on VP Records , which contains a collection of his most famous songs, but also completely new, never heard songs.

On his album Reggae Music Again , Busy Signal combines 70s roots reggae , spherical dub experiments, classic lovers rock and smooth rub-a-dub with current deejay styles. The album features word games aimed at the “Generation Facebook”. In addition to clear reminiscences of a time when Jamaica was still associated with a carefree life ( Reggae Music Again ), Busy Signal's descriptions of the grim everyday life on his album , which was released on VP Records on April 24, 2012, repeatedly refer to the present day.

Busy Signal is also one of the most famous artists, alongside Mavado , in the Alliance , a group of dancehall artists founded by Bounty Killer .

Busy Signal was extradited to the United States on June 19, 2012 after being arrested and handed over to United States authorities at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on his return from a European tour . Glendale Goshia Gordon, as Busy Signal's real name is, fled Minnesota in 2002, before he started his musician career, to evade a lawsuit over cocaine trafficking. The entertainer had put bail and got rid of an electronic ankle cuff before fling to Jamaica, where he has since lived under the false name of Reanno Devon Gordon. After serving 6 months in prison in the US in late 2012, he returned to Jamaica.
