The 61st edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2011 from February 15th to 19th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Gianni Morandi with Belén Rodríguez , Elisabetta Canalis , Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu .

procedure

The Ariston Theater, venue of the Sanremo Festival

In 2011 the artistic direction of the festival remained with Gianmarco Mazzi ; he shared it with Gianni Morandi , who was first hired to host the festival. Morandi was moderated by Belén Rodríguez and Elisabetta Canalis and the comedian duo Luca e Paolo ( Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu ). The field of participants was reduced slightly, the newcomer category comprised eight entries, the main category 14; Four or ten entries made it to the final. In addition to televoting , a polling jury and an orchestra jury, the accredited press representatives were given a say in the voting this year.

The big favorite this year was the 67-year-old Roberto Vecchioni with the song Chiamami ancora amore ; he had not participated in the festival since 1973. Other "old stars" of the festival were Anna Oxa , Patty Pravo and Al Bano . Even Max Pezzali returned to the festival after 16 years. The popular band Modà , on the other hand, made their debut in the main category , accompanied by the Amici winner Emma . Another casting show graduate was the X-Factor winner Nathalie . Among the guests were Antonella Clerici , Roberto Benigni , Avril Lavigne and Take That .

Vecchioni was able to prevail in the final ahead of Modà and Emma with Arriverà and Al Bano with Amanda è libera without any major surprises . The winning entry was also awarded the Critics' Prize. Raphael Gualazzi won the newcomer category with Follia d'amore , and he was also awarded the Critics' Prize.
