The 45th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 1995 from February 21st to 25th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Pippo Baudo with Anna Falchi and Claudia Koll .

Pippo Baudo's role became even more important in 1995, as he not only took on the moderation and artistic direction, but also preselected the festival entries. This year Anna Falchi and Claudia Koll supported him in moderation . A new rule stipulated that in the main category, in addition to 16 regular participants, seven finalists from the previous year's newcomer category entered the race; however, only four of these made it to the final. Of the 16 newcomers this year, ten again qualified for the finals in their category. After 1989, the event lasted five evenings instead of four for the second time; this duration should hold from now on.

In the field of participants handpicked by Baudo, it was noticeable that several television celebrities of the time made it into the selection: Fiorello , Lorella Cuccarini and Sabina Guzzanti . Fiorello was a big favorite with Finalmente tu (written by 883 , who were also in the running) and at the same time was particularly popular with the gossip press as a partner of comoderator Anna Falchi. A total of five participants were former Sanremo winners: Toto Cutugno , Massimo Ranieri , Gigliola Cinquetti , Peppino di Capri (as part of the Trio Melody ) and Gianni Morandi . In addition to other big names such as Spagna , Patty Pravo and Loredana Bertè , the young Giorgia was considered the only promising outsider. International guests were Ray Charles , Take That , Madonna , Sting and Duran Duran .

Among the newcomers, the group Neri per Caso won with the song Le ragazze , and Gianluca Grignani with Destinazione Paradiso also made a special impression . The critics award went to Gloria , who missed the final with Le voci di dentro . In the main category, Giorgia was awarded the Critics' Prize, which then anticipated the final result: Giorgia won with Come saprei ahead of Gianni Morandi and Barbara Cola with In amore and Spagna with Gente come noi . The initial favorite Fiorello only ended up in fifth place, still behind Andrea Bocelli with the later world hit Con te partirò .

As in the previous year, the successes in the festival did not carry over to the hit parades; here the big winner was group 883 (8th place in the competition). The single Senza averti qui also contained Fiorello's Finalmente tu . In addition, Bocellis Con te partirò (4th place) started a worldwide triumph.
