The 51st edition of the Festival Italian Song Sanremo found in 2001 on five days between February 26 and March 3 in the Ariston Theater in Sanremo and was hosted by Raffaella Carrà with Megan Gale , Massimo Ceccherini and Enrico Papi moderated.

In 2001, the Rai entrusted the moderation of the festival to the popular moderator Raffaella Carrà . She was supported by Megan Gale , Massimo Ceccherini and Enrico Papi . After the jury of experts had turned the final result upside down in the previous year, this year an attempt was made to balance the proportion of votes by introducing a “consumer jury” consisting of a test pool of 300 music consumers; their votes complemented those of the demoscopic and expert jury. This year the latter consisted of Gino Paoli , Omar Calabrese , Piero Chiambretti , Saverio Marconi , Alberto Testa , Francesca Archibugi , Giovanni Veronesi , Piero Vivarelli , Margherita Buy and Iva Zanicchi .

There were 16 participants each in the main and newcomer categories, and all of them reached the respective finals. Among the guests were Eminem , Russell Crowe (with his band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts ), Fiorello and Antonio Banderas .

While the musical qualities of the festival were recognized, there was a lot of criticism of the production in 2001, which was also reflected in the audience ratings. Luce (Tramonti a nord est) by Elisa (accompanied by the Solis String Quartet ) quickly became a favorite of the critics, while Giorgia scored with the audience with Di sole e d'azzurro . In the newcomer category, the young rock band Gazosa won with the song Stai con me (Forever) , the critical award went ex aequo to Francesco Renga with Raccontami… and to Roberto Angelini with Il Signor Domani . In the final, the jury of experts was again able to prevail and help Elisa to win; Giorgia and Matia Bazar (with Questa nostra grande storia d'amore ) followed on the podium ; Elisa was also able to secure the critic's award.

successes

From a commercial point of view, the 2001 festival was very successful, with ten entries from the main category and five from the newcomer category subsequently reaching the Italian single charts. The winning entry reached the top of the chart, something that had not happened since 1993.
