Matia Bazar is a successful Italian pop - group of Genoa . It has been active in alternating line-up since 1975.
history
The group was formed in Genoa in 1975. The founding members were Piero Cassano, Aldo Stellita and Carlo Marrale (all three former members of the JET music group ), Giancarlo Golzi and singer Antonella Ruggiero . Matia was the stage name with which Ruggiero started her music career in 1974. The group's debut single was Stasera che sera , followed by Per un'ora d'amore and their first album, Matia Bazar 1 (1976). The group's participation in the 1977 Sanremo Festival with Ma perché was not crowned with success, but the song became a sales success. In the same year, Matia Bazar had a number one success with Solo tu . On this wave of success, she then won the Sanremo Festival in 1978 with the title ... e dirsi ciao , which also became a number one hit.
Successful titles such as Tu semplicità or C'è tutto un mondo intorno followed . With Raggio di luna , the group represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 and finished 15th out of 19 participants. Piero Cassano left the group in 1981. His replacement was Mauro Sabbione, who characterized the electronic experimentation phase of the group with his keyboard and his compositions (like Palestina ). In 1985 Sergio Cossu took his place. In 1983 Matia Bazar won the critics' award at the Sanremo Festival with the later number one hit Vacanze romane , and in 1985 again with a souvenir . Her internationally best-known song, Ti sento , dates from 1985 and made it to eleventh place in the German hit parade in September 1986 .
In 1989 the singer Antonella Ruggiero left the group. Her successor was Laura Valente. With her the group took part in the Sanremo Festival two more times, with Piccoli giganti in 1992 and with Dedicato a te 1993 . In 1994 Carlo Marrale also left the group to pursue a solo career. For its 20th anniversary, Matia Bazar published Radiomatia in 1995 , followed by Benvenuti a Sausalito in 1997 . In 1998 bassist Aldo Stellita died. Drummer Giancarlo Golzi, now the only remaining founding member, then brought Piero Cassano back. Fabio Perversi and singer Silvia Mezzanotte were also new to join Laura Valente. The group returned to Sanremo in this formation: in 2000 they reached eighth place with Brivido caldo, third place in 2001 with Questa nostra grande storia d'amore and finally their second victory in 2002 with Messaggio d'amore .
In 2005 the group presented itself again in Sanremo with a new singer, Roberta Faccani, and the song Grido d'amore . Between 2007 and 2008 she released the two-part cover album One1 Two2 Three3 Four4 . In 2010 singer Silvia Mezzanotte returned. The album Conseguenza logica was released in 2011 and was reissued in 2012 after a renewed participation in Sanremo with Sei tu . In 2015 the group went on an anniversary tour on the occasion of their 40th anniversary. However, founding member Giancarlo Golzi died unexpectedly in the summer of that year. In February 2016 singer Mezzanotte left the band again, followed in 2017 by Piero Cassano. Now led by Fabio Perversi, the group with singer Luna Dragonieri, drummer Fiamma Cardani, bassist Paola Zadra and guitarist Piero Marras reorganized itself. The first release in the new line-up was the single Verso il punto più alto (2018).
