Nina Zilli
Nina Zilli (born February 2, 1980 in Piacenza ; actually Maria Chiara Fraschetta ) is an Italian singer . She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 .
Career
Maria Chiara Fraschetta was born in Piacenza and grew up in Gossolengo . At the age of 13 she moved to Ireland and began classical singing training. At the age of 17 she formed her first band called The Jerks . After completing school, she went to the United States for two years, where she lived in Chicago and New York and gained musical experience between R&B , reggae and soul . Back in Italy, she worked in 2000 and 2001 as a co-presenter on the TV show Roxy Bar on the Italian broadcaster TMC2 . In 2001 she also worked as a VJ for the Italian branch of the TV channel MTV . In the meantime, she performed with her new band Chiara e gli Scuri , which released their first single, Tutti al mare , in 2001 .
From 2009 Fraschetta appeared under the stage name Nina Zilli. Zilli is derived from the mother's maiden name, while the first name Nina is based on her artistic role model Nina Simone . As Nina Zilli, she released her first single 50mila in 2009 in collaboration with Giuliano Palma , which found its way into the soundtrack of the film Men al dente (Mine vaganti) by Ferzan Özpetek . The first self-titled EP followed . Another single was L'amore verrà , an Italian version of You Can't Hurry Love by The Supremes . With L'uomo che amava le donne Zilli made his debut in the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival 2010 and won a. a. the Critics 'Prize and the Journalists' Special Prize. The album Semper lontano , released afterwards, also contained the songs from the debut EP.
At the Sanremo Festival 2012 , Zilli presented the song Per semper , now in the main category . On the third evening she performed in a duet with the British singer Skye Edwards , with whom she sang the classic Grande, grande, grande (originally from the repertoire of Mina ). At the end of the festival she was selected by the TV broadcaster RAI as the Italian representative for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . Per semper was initially intended as the song for this competition , but it eventually became L'amore è femmina (Out of Love) , the theme song from Zilli's second studio album, which was released during the festival.
In 2013 the singer went on tour with Fabrizio Bosso and the project We Love You , which was dedicated to important representatives of soul , such as Amy Winehouse , Nina Simone, Sam Cooke , Otis Redding , Etta James and Marvin Gaye . With Sola Zilli returned in 2015 to back Sanremo Music Festival. She then released her third album Frasi & fumo , produced by Mauro Pagani . From March 12th to May 14th, 2015 she took part as a juror in the talent show Italia's Got Talent on Sky . Her fourth album Modern Art (like L'amore è femmina ) was produced by Michele Canova Iorfida and was released in 2017. At the Sanremo Festival 2018 , Zilli was in the running with the song Senza appartenere , which found its way into a new edition of the fourth album.
