Francesco Gabbani (born September 9, 1982 in Carrara ) is an Italian musician . He won the Sanremo Festival in 2017 and represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 .

Career

As a child, Gabbani learned to play drums and guitar . At the age of 18 he signed his first record deal with Sony BMG . Between 2000 and 2010 he released two albums with the band Trikobalto and performed a. a. as the opening act of Oasis before embarking on a solo career after the band split up. From 2011 he released several singles on the Universo label , including Maledetto amore , which found its way into the soundtrack of the film L'amore fa male . In 2013 Gabbani wrote the song Toy Boy for Raffaella Carrà ; in addition, his first solo album Greitist Iz was released .

In 2015 the singer moved to BMG Rights Management . At the end of the year he qualified in the television program #SG - Sanremo Giovani for the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival 2016 , where he finally won the song with the song Amen ; he also won the Critics' Prize, the Emanuele Luzzati Prize and the Prize for the Best Lyrics. His second album Eternamente ora was released parallel to the Sanremo participation . At the end of the year, the musician was responsible for the soundtrack of the film Poveri ma ricchi by Fausto Brizzi , including the title song Foglie al gelo .

Now in the main category, Gabbani also took part in the 2017 Sanremo Festival . With the song Occidentali's Karma he achieved victory here too. With this title he represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev and reached sixth place. At the end of April Gabbani’s third album Magellano was released , the international edition published as Magellan . Gabbani's song Tra le granite e le granate became a summer hit in Italy in 2017 .

The musician returned in 2019 with the singles È un'altra cosa and Duemiladiciannove . At the Sanremo Festival 2020 he reached second place with Viceversa .
