Marco Mengoni (born December 25, 1988 in Ronciglione , Viterbo province ) is an Italian pop singer . He became known as the winner of the casting show X Factor (2009) and the Sanremo Festival in 2013 .

Career

Mengoni took part in the third season of X Factor as part of the Morgan team in 2009 and was able to secure the victory. Immediately after this success, his final song Dove si vola, written by Saverio Grandi and Bungaro , entered the Italian charts at number one. The seven-track EP of the same name also made it into the top 10 of the album charts. The following year, he took the song Credimi ancora at Sanremo Festival 2010 in part and finished there in third place. Immediately afterwards his second 7-track EP Re matto was released , with which he topped the charts for four weeks. A live album with the same title reached number one again in October. Mengoni also had success with the single In un giorno qualunque .

In May 2010 the singer was named Man of the Year at the TRL Awards given by MTV Italy . At the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards , Mengoni was one of the five nominees in the Best Italian Artist category . After all, he not only won the national decision, but was also named Best European Act . In 2011 he reported back with the single Solo and finally the album Solo 2.0 , which again reached the top of the chart.

In 2013 , Mengoni entered the Sanremo Festival for the second time. There he presented Bellissimo and L'essenziale and won the competition with the latter. At the same time he was selected as the representative of Italy for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 . In March, the singer's next successful album was released with #Prontoacorrere , with songs like Pronto a correre or Non passerai . At the ESC in Malmö he sang his Sanremo winning song again in May and was able to achieve seventh place. In 2014 Mengoni also released a Spanish version of his last album.

The number one hit Guerriero (written by Fortunato Zampaglione ) introduced the next studio album Parole in circolo at the end of 2014 . This was released in early 2015 and was followed in the same year by Le cose che non ho , giving Mengoni two number one albums in one year. The single Ti ho voluto bene veramente (again from the pen of Zampaglione) reached the top of the chart. After this intense and successful year, the singer first released the album Liberando palabras (Spanish version of Parole in circolo ) in 2016 and then a live album in his home country.

In 2017 it was quieter for Mengoni, at the end of the year he had a smaller success together with Giorgia and the song Come neve . Only at the end of 2018 did he return to the limelight with the simultaneous release of the singles Voglio and Buona vita and was able to land another number one album with the album Atlantico . For the third single Hola (I Say) he worked with the British musician Tom Walker .
