The Italian version of the talent show X Factor is based on the British show of the same name by Simon Cowell . With currently 13 seasons, it is the longest-lasting X-Factor edition worldwide after the original version. The first four seasons were broadcast by the public broadcaster Rai 2 ; 2011 took over pay TV transmitters Sky Uno the shipment after the RAI had resigned due to high production costs. Sky initially acquired the rights for another two seasons, but then extended the contract until 2018.

Francesco Facchinetti hosted the show for RAI, and Alessandro Cattelan took his place in 2011 . FremantleMedia Italia has been responsible for production since the seventh season , while the Italian company Magnolia was previously involved. Since 2015, MTV Italia has also been involved in the broadcast with several specials.

concept

X Factor is a competition between jurors, each of whom is responsible for a competition category. Up to the third season there were three categories, but since the fourth the number has increased to four:

  • Age group 16–24 (seasons 1–3)
  • Uomini (men) 16-24 (since season 4)
  • Donne (women) 16-24 (since season 4)
  • Age group 25+
  • Gruppi (bands)

The show consists of four phases:

  1. Audizioni ( Audition ) in front of the jurors (seasons 1–4) or in front of the jury and audience (since season 5)
  2. Bootcamp (seasons 1–7) or Six Chair Challenge (since season 8)
  3. Home Visit
  4. Live show

In order to pass the selection phase, a candidate needs the approval of at least two (seasons 1–3) or three (since season 4) of the jurors. In the second phase, he or she is assigned to a category and the associated juror. At the home visit , the candidates are definitely selected after they sing in front of their respective jurors at a location chosen by them. During the final live shows there are always two runs, in which one candidate is eliminated by televoting ; one of the two can be called back by the jurors with a simple majority or, in the event of a tie, by televoting only 200 seconds.

The price for winning the final is a record deal for 300,000 euros with Sony Music . In the third season, the win also included automatic selection for the main category of the 2010 Sanremo Festival .

Jurors

In the first two seasons, the musician Morgan , the music producer Mara Maionchi and the television presenter Simona Ventura acted as jurors. Ventura was replaced in the third season by the singer Claudia Mori . From the fourth season there were four jurors: in addition to Mara Maionchi, these were the musicians Enrico Ruggeri , Anna Tatangelo and Elio (frontman of the band Elio e le Storie Tese ). In the fifth season, now on Sky, in addition to Elio, Morgan and Simona Ventura and the new singer Arisa took over the roles as jurors. In the seventh season, the musician Mika took Arisa's place. Morgan and Mika remained on the jury in the eighth season, with the rapper Fedez and TV presenter Victoria Cabello joining them .

In the ninth season, Mika, Fedez, Elio and the British singer Skin were represented in the jury. Only Fedez remained as a juror in the next season, while Manuel Agnelli, frontman of the band Afterhours , and the German-Spanish pop singer Álvaro Soler joined the team and Arisa returned after a three-issue break. In season eleven Mara Maionchi returned, the singer Levante appeared as a new juror, while Fedez and Agnelli remained on the jury. For the twelfth season, Levante was replaced by actress Asia Argento , who in turn was replaced by Lodo Guenzi, frontman of the band Lo Stato Sociale , after allegations of sexual harassment against her before the live broadcasts began .
