The thin-leaved nude fern ( Anogramma leptophylla ) is a type of plant from the genus of the nude ferns ( Anogramma ) within the tree fern family (Pteridaceae).

description

Habitus

The thin-leaved nude fern is an herbaceous plant that has a one to two-year-old sporophyte and a perennial gametophyte . The sporophyte reaches heights of growth of 3 to 25 centimeters.

The leaves are tightly tufted and are only hairy when young, later glabrous. The frond stem is as long or longer than the blade; it is shiny, dark in the lower part, light reddish-brown in the upper part. The leaf blades are very different; on the outer fronds the sections are rounded, kidney-shaped and cut in the shape of a hand; they are sterile. The outer fronds are much shorter than the fertile inner ones. The sections on the middle fronds are ovate, sometimes heart-shaped at the bottom and the blade is simple to double pinnate with narrower sections. In the largest fronds, the blade is triple pinnate and the sections are oblong-lanceolate and blunt. These fronds have up to seven feathers on each side. The lower leaflets are petiolate. The last sections are mostly wedge-shaped, obovate, lobed, incised, notched or sawed.

The sori develop near the nerves and near the edge, an indusium is missing. The spore ripening is in May and June.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26, 58 or 112–114.

ecology

The sporophyte of the thin-leaved hairless fern is annual during the winter. However, its prothallium does not die off prematurely, but survives the dry summer time as a retracted nodule. The delicate fronds of the sporophyte do not appear until the next rainy season and wither after the spore ripening in May or June.

Occurrence

The thin-leaved nude fern is widespread in the world, but with a disjoint area . The distribution area extends from southern North America through Central America and the Caribbean islands to the western side of South America and includes South Africa , East Africa , southeastern Australia , New Zealand , a few areas in South Asia, plus the Mediterranean , Western Europe (north to the Channel Islands ), the Azores , Canaries , Madeira and Cape Verde . In Central Europe, the thin-leaved nude fern occurs only in southern Switzerland and northern Italy . The highest location in the Alps is near Branson in Valais at an altitude of around 1060 meters.

The thin-leaved nude fern is a shade plant ; he is sensitive to frost . It thrives in the Mediterranean region on damp and shady rocks and in areas protected from frost, under hedges, in sunken paths. He avoids limestone areas .
