Peter Schönfelder
Peter Schönfelder (born April 29, 1940 in Breslau ; † July 7, 2020 in Pentling near Regensburg ) was a German botanist and plant geographer; he was a retired professor of geobotany at the University of Regensburg . One of his specialties was the mapping of the flora of Bavaria and Germany. Outside of the scientific community, he was best known for his works on the flora of the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands . He was considered to be one of the few German-speaking experts on ancient Mediterranean flora. His botanical author's abbreviation is " P.Schönfelder ".
Together with his wife Ingrid, Peter Schönfelder has also written numerous plant guides. Together with Dankwart Ludwig , he was the first to describe the Canarian ball grass species Dactylis metlesicsii P.Schönfelder & D.Ludwig .
