The 65th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2015 from February 10th to 14th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Carlo Conti , accompanied by the former Sanremo winners Arisa and Emma and the Spanish actress and presenter Rocío Muñoz Morales . The winner of the competition, Il Volo with Grande amore , was given the opportunity to represent Italy in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest .

With almost 12 million TV viewers on the evening of the final and an average market share of 48.64%, this edition of the festival was the most watched since 2006; for RAI this meant a profit of approx. 6 million euros.

organization

General

The festival was organized by the state television station RAI . After last year's edition under the direction of Fabio Fazio was a flop in terms of audience ratings, Fazio was replaced by Carlo Conti for 2015. Conti moderated the festival for the first time. Pinuccio Pirazzoli was responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the stage set was by Riccardo Bocchini and directed by Maurizio Pagnussat . The music commission ( commissione musicale ) consisted of Pirazzoli, Giovanni Allevi , Rocco Tanica , Carolina Di Domenico , Claudio Fasulo and Ivana Sabatini .

Press room

The press room ( Sala Stampa ) is the name of the jury made up of radio and TV journalists, who influenced the voting by 50% on the first three evenings.

Expert jury

The jury of experts ( giuria degli esperti ) voted on the fourth and fifth evening, with their vote each accounting for 30% of the overall rating. It was made up of ten personalities who have a connection to entertainment and culture:

Demoscopic jury

The demoscopic jury ( giuria demoscopica ) is a sample of 300 randomly selected music consumers who voted from home using an electronic system. Like the jury of experts, they voted on the fourth and fifth evening and each made up 30% of the rating.

Candidates

In the main Campioni category , 20 candidates competed against each other, 16 of which reached the final. In the newcomer category Nuove Proposte, however, eight candidates competed against each other, four of whom contested the final on the third evening.

The 20 Campioni were selected from 186 applicants and proclaimed by Carlo Conti on the television show L'Arena on Rai 1 on December 14, 2014.

Six of the eight newcomers were selected from 561 applications, while two were determined in the preliminary decision of Area Sanremo (Amara and Chanty); the names were announced on December 9, 2014 by Carlo Conti.

On the opening evening, ten of the 20 Campioni presented their song. On the basis of the voting results, 50% of which were determined by the television audience and 50% by the press room, a preliminary ranking was made.

    Second evening

    The second evening began with the newcomer competition, in which four of the Nuove Proposte compete against each other in pairs; the respective winner, who is determined 50% by the television audience and 50% by the press room, reaches the semi-finals on the fourth evening. The remaining ten Campioni make their appearance.

    The Nuove Proposte competition continued with the four remaining candidates; Again they competed against each other in pairs and fought for the final on the fourth evening. The 20 Campioni, on the other hand, presented cover versions of well-known Italian songs. Voting on the best cover has no influence on the competition itself, but is awarded a special price.

    Fourth evening

    The four remaining Nuove Proposte competed against each other again in pairs. In a second round there was another duel between the resulting finalists. All 20 Campioni appeared again and faced another vote. From the voting results of the first, second and fourth evening, the sequence of appearance in the final was determined; the four last-placed candidates were finally eliminated.

    After the 16 finalists had performed with their song, the three candidates with the highest voting results made it to the finals. Only after another round of voting was the winner determined from the remaining three.

    compilation

    A compilation with all the participating songs was released during the festival on February 13th under the name Super Sanremo 2015 . It immediately topped the official compilation charts and held that position for eight weeks; making it the best-selling compilation of the year.
