Irene Grandi (2007)

Irene Grandi (born December 6, 1969 in Florence ) is an Italian pop singer and songwriter . It had its breakthrough in 1994 at the Sanremo Festival . Occasionally she also appeared as a film actress and television presenter .

Career

Irene Grandi has been active on the local Florence music scene since the late 1980s. Between 1988 and 1990 she worked in the band Goppions , then with La Forma and Le Matte in Traferta . After meeting the songwriter Lorenzo Ternelli, she began to work on a solo career. She was able to attract the attention of producer Dado Parisini, who brokered her a record deal with the CGD label . In 1993 she took part in the preselection for the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival and was able to make her debut in Sanremo on a national level in 1994 with the song Fuori ( Andrea Bocelli won the category , Grandi took fourth place). A little later her first album Irene Grandi was released , followed by songs by Eros Ramazzotti and Jovanotti . It reached the top 10 of the charts and the following tour with Paolo Vallesi was also a success. In Germany , Grandi had a small success in 1994 with the title Because you are different (Così diversi noi) , a duet with Klaus Lage .

The second album In vacanza da una vita was released in 1995 and was able to build on the success of its predecessor. Songs like Dolcissimo amore , Bum Bum , In vacanza da una vita or Bambine cattive were very popular with the audience. Grandi accompanied Pino Daniele on tour and recorded the duet Se mi vuoi with him . The following year she played her first film role in Il Barbiere di Rio by Giovanni Veronesi and recorded the theme song with Fai come me . The song found its way into their third album Per fortuna purtroppo , which was released in 1997. In 1998 the singer released a compilation for the Spanish-speaking market and tried her hand at the theater, the following year she recorded the fourth album Verderossoeblu with a new production team . With the song La tua ragazza semper , written by Vasco Rossi and Gaetano Curreri ( Stadio ) , she returned to the Sanremo Festival in 2000 and was able to achieve second place in the main category.

After the Sanremo success, the singer's first compilation, Irek , was released in 2001 . In 2003 it was the turn of the next studio album, Prima di partire , on which Grandi continued the collaboration with Vasco Rossi, whose concert in San Siro she also opened that year. In 2004 she was the presenter of the music competition Festivalbar . This was followed by the album Indelebile (2005) and the compilation irenegrandi.hits (2007), which included the song Bruci la città , written by Francesco Bianconi ( Baustelle ) , which reached number two in the charts and was a summer hit in Italy . After a Christmas album in 2008, the singer returned to Sanremo in 2010 , where she only achieved eighth place with La cometa di Halley, again written by Bianconi . The album Alle porte del sogno was then released .

In 2012 Grandi recorded a joint album with his friend, jazz pianist Stefano Bollani . The collaboration with Bollani also included a joint tour and his participation in their next album Un vento senza nome , which was released in 2015 after another Sanremo participation with the song of the same name. With Finalmente io , she reached ninth place at the Sanremo Festival 2020 .
