Baustelle is an Italian indie rock band that was formed in 1994 in the province of Siena , Tuscany .
history
The band was formed in 1994 in Montepulciano . The band name comes from the German term construction site , which the group chose using a German-Italian dictionary . According to band member Francesco Bianconi, the word construction site was chosen because of its curious properties, such as the inclusion of the word stelle (which means stars in Italian ), onomatopoeia construction (the bark of a dog is represented in Italian as construction ) and the word elle (french for her ). The sonic connection to the French writer and master of decadence poetry Charles Baudelaire is certainly not unintentional.
The band, the result of a student project, released their first album in 2000, Sussidiario illustrato della giovinezza , which, produced by Amerigo Verardi , revealed the group's openness to a wide variety of styles. The pieces reflect the influences of chansons of French and Italian origins, electronic music , New Wave , the soundtracks of the 1960s and 1970s through to bossa nova . The album received the award Fuori dal Mucchio (the magazine Il Mucchio Selvaggio ) as best independent debut.
In 2003 the album La moda del lento was released , which in its style followed the line of its predecessor and was awarded the MEI ( Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti ) prize as the best band of the year for the construction site .
In 2005 the band switched from their previous independent record label to the multinational music company Warner and released the album La malavita , whose singles La guerra è finita and Un romantico a Milano enjoyed great success in Italy. In 2008, the album Amen was released , also by Warner .
