Stadio is an Italian pop rock band that was formed in 1979. It currently consists of the members Gaetano Curreri (vocals), Roberto Drovandi (bass), Andrea Fornili (guitar) and Giovanni Pezzoli (drums, band founder together with Gaetano Curreri).
history
Stadio was founded in 1979 by Gaetano Curreri (vocals), Marco Nanni (bass), Ricky Portera (guitar), Fabio Liberatori (keyboard) and Giovanni Pezzoli (drums) when they played Lucio Dalla and Francesco De Gregori on their Banana Republic tour accompanied. In 1982 their self-titled debut album appeared on the record company RCA Italiana , which was preceded the previous year by the single Grande figlio di puttana . Parts of it were used in the soundtrack of the film Borotalco by Carlo Verdone , which earned the group a Nastro d'Argento and a David di Donatello . The band also worked with Lucio Dalla, Luca Carboni and Antonello Venditti . It would be two more years before they had their first hits of their own with Allo Stadio and Acqua e sapone from their second album La faccia delle donne . Once again Carlo Verdone used their music for one of his films, Acqua e sapone , and again the band won both a Nastro d'Argento and a David . Although they landed last at the 1984 Sanremo Festival with Allo Stadio , their participation made them known to a wider audience for the first time.
Between the mini album Chiedi chi erano i Beatles and another collaboration with director Verdone and the third album Canzoni alla radio (1986) founding member Ricky Portera got out. The first line-up problems made themselves felt. Further collaborations with Lucio Dalla, Vasco Rossi and Gianni Morandi as well as Carlo Verdone followed. In 1989 the album Puoi fidarti di me was released . Until 1991 only Curreri and Pezzoli remained from the original line-up. With Andrea Fornili (guitar) and bassist Roberto Drovandi, a stable line-up was found that has endured to this day. 1991 also marked the change to the major label EMI . Her album Siamo tutti elefanti inventati was another hit, followed by Stabiliamo un contratto in 1992 . In 1995 Di volpi, di vizi e di virtù was published . The single Ballando al buio was her biggest hit to date.
The 1996 album Il canto delle pellicole brings together some movie songs from Stadio's career. In 1999 , after 1984 and 1986 , the band returned to the Sanremo Festival with the song Lo zaino, finishing fifth. In 2002 the album Occhi negli occhi was released with the hit Sorprendimi . With the song Guardami from the album Parole nel vento they appeared unsuccessfully at the Sanremo Festival 2007 . On February 13, 2016, Stadio won the 66th Sanremo Festival with the song Un giorno mi dirai . The band had submitted the song back in 2015, but it was not approved. The title, which is about a difficult father-child relationship, also won the prize for best composition and the press prize. Stadio thus had the opportunity to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm . But just one day after the Sanremo Festival, they declined because they had already planned a tour and would rather let a young artist go first. Francesca Michielin , the runner-up at the festival, now competes for Italy.
