Antonello Venditti (born March 8, 1949 in Rome ) is one of the great cantautori (songwriters) in Italy and became famous together with other important cantautori such as Francesco de Gregori and Lucio Dalla as part of the Italian student movement towards the end of the 1960s and 1970s .

To this day, Venditti is a well- heard composer in Italy who fills stadiums. Thematically, he mainly deals with social criticism and with his hometown Rome. His music can be described as folk influenced and calm to rock oriented. He is a co-founder of the "Roman School".

Life

Venditti became enthusiastic about music at an early age and took piano lessons as a child. During this time the desire to write your own songs matured. His first own song was called Sora rosa .

Venditti received support from the songwriters Francesco De Gregori and Giorgio Lo Cascio. In 1971 he went on a concert tour with De Gregori and the joint project Theorius Campus, and both artists were equally involved in the album of the same name. After the success of the joint album Roma capoccia , Venditti moved to Milan and produced the solo album L'orso bruno . This made him one of the most innovative authors on the Italian music scene.

With the 1974 album Quando verrà Natale Venditti did not have the desired success. Even the LPs of the next few years could not establish themselves commercially, but there were two single hits. The song Bomba o non bomba became a top 10 hit in Austria in 1979, Buona Domenica achieved a top 10 placement in Switzerland and a top 40 placement in Germany in 1980. The first album with a hit parade listing, Cuore , dates back to 1984 and was number 28 in Switzerland. The 1995 long player Prendilo tu questo frutto amaro had a similar sales success .

Antonello Venditti had the greatest commercial success from 2000 onwards. In the following years three singles (2001 Che c'è , 2008 Dalla pelle al cuore and 2011 Unica ) reached the top 10 in Italy. Nine albums climbed the top 20, including five top 10 and three number 1 placements.
