The seventh edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in the municipal casino in Sanremo from January 7th to 9th 1957 and was moderated by Nunzio Filogamo together with Nicoletta Orsomando and the actresses Marisa Allasio and Fiorella Mari .
procedure
Last year's experiment of only allowing newcomers to compete had proven to be a failure, which is why the RAI returned to tradition in 1957: well-known singers, most of them with Sanremo experience, were able to participate again and every song was again in two versions presented. In other respects, too, there was recourse to permanent staff: moderator Filogamo, who was already responsible for the first three editions, returned, and with him the conductors Cinico Angelini and Armando Trovajoli with their respective orchestras and Alberto Semprini , who wrote the songs in the competition on the piano repeated. The singers Nilla Pizzi and Achille Togliani were represented as members of the jury in the audience this time.
As always, half of the songs were presented on Thursday, the rest on Friday; of the original 20 entries, five each qualified for the final on Saturday. The song La cosa più bella (Pinchi, Dino Olivieri), sung by Carla Boni and Tonina Torrielli , was disqualified at the last moment because it turned out to have been recorded by Cristina Jorio , contrary to the competition rules . In the final the acclaimed Claudio Villa prevailed for the second time , whose four contributions had all advanced; together with Nunzio Gallo he finished first and with Giorgio Consolini second.
Following the main competition, there was a separate competition for songs by independent authors (i.e. without a contract with a music publisher) on Sunday, January 10th; again ten songs were presented in two versions each and here too a song interpreted by Claudio Villa (together with Consolini) prevailed, namely Ondamarina .

successes
The winning song Corde della mia chitarra was also presented by Nunzio Gallo at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957 , where it took sixth place (out of ten) and, with a duration of 5:09 minutes, went down in history as the longest ESC contribution of all time. Otherwise, the fourth-placed Casetta in Canadà was particularly popular in Italy .
