Gino Latilla

Gino Latilla (born November 7, 1924 in Bari as Gennaro Latilla , † September 11, 2011 in Florence ) was an Italian singer.

Career

The son of the singer Mario Latilla grew up in a musical environment and sang as a child. Latilla made his official debut as a singer in 1948 at the Teatro Manzoni in Bologna . In the following years he successfully toured Germany and the USA and was then hired by the Italian radio Rai as a singer for the orchestra of Cinico Angelini . He made his debut with four songs at the Sanremo Festival in 1952 . Together with Giorgio Consolini , he achieved third place and a great commercial success with the song Vecchio scarpone at the 1953 Sanremo Festival . Also with Consolini he could in the following year the festival with Tutte le mamme win (and at the same time ... e la barca Torno sola , along with Franco Ricci , also the third place, respectively).

Latilla returned to Sanremo several times with success until 1961 . In 1957 he sang a duet with Carla Boni for the first time in Casetta in Canadà , which he repeated in 1958 in Non potrai dimenticare . In the same year he married the singer (Sanremo winner 1953 ). In addition to Sanremo, Latilla was also a guest in many other musical events of those years, sang duets with other well-known singers such as Claudio Villa and went on international tours. In the USA he released under the pseudonym Tony Williams records on the Liberty Records label . His last great success as a singer in Italy was Tu sì comm'a 'na palummella , presented in a duet with his wife at the Festival di Napoli in 1961.

From 1952 onwards, Latilla occasionally took on smaller roles in films, his most important being in Presentimento by Armando Fizzarotti (1956). During the 1960s, Latilla gave up the stage and worked in management positions for the Rai, first in Rome, then in Florence. It wasn't until 1987 that he returned to the limelight when he founded the vocal ensemble Quelli di Sanremo with Carla Boni (whom he split from in the mid-1970s), Nilla Pizzi and Giorgio Consolini and recorded an album. He finally died in 2011 after a long illness at the age of 86.
