The fourth edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in the municipal casino in Sanremo from January 28th to 30th in 1954 and was moderated by Nunzio Filogamo .

procedure

The municipal casino, venue of the Sanremo Festival

The year 1954 brought the official go-ahead for television in the Italian media landscape, but the Sanremo Festival was still broadcast solely by radio that year. The orchestras were led by Cinico Angelini (as usual) and newcomer Alberto Semprini , with the more traditional Angelini orchestra being much more popular. Vittoria Mongardi , Natalino Otto , the Quartetto Cetra , Franco Ricci and Gianni Ravera were new singers, while Nilla Pizzi , who had previously fallen out with Cinico Angelini, was missing from the regular participants . It was also the first edition of the festival without Pier Busseti, the casino operator and early promoter of the event, as he had passed away the previous year.

Otherwise everything stayed the same: each of the twenty songs was performed in two versions, the first half on Thursday, the rest on Friday; the large jury each selected five songs that were approved for the final on Saturday. In the end, the song Tutte le mamme prevailed, which was interpreted by Giorgio Consolini and Gino Latilla.
