The 27th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 1977 from March 3rd to 5th at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Mike Bongiorno and Maria Giovanna Elmi .
procedure
Vittorio Salvetti continued the festival this year, drastically reducing the number of participating songs in particular: with only twelve songs and performers, Sanremo has the lowest number of participants from 1977 until today (status: 2018). Another decisive change was the change of the venue: due to construction work in the casino, the event was initially temporarily moved to the Ariston Theater. However, this should completely replace the casino in the future. Mike Bongiorno returned as a presenter, presenting his ninth festival after 1975; the first two evenings, which were only broadcast on the radio, were moderated by Maria Giovanna Elmi .
Newcomers with hit parade experience were selected as participants. Four of them had already participated in the previous year ( Albatros , La Strana Società , Leano Morelli and Santino Rocchetti ), while Donatella Rettore first took part in 1974; the remaining seven, including five bands, were all debutants. In general, the proportion of music groups (seven in total) was above average. In 1977 there were no eliminations before the final, instead the candidates had the opportunity on the first two evenings to present themselves not only with their participating song, but also with other songs of their own, if desired accompanied by other artists. So accompanied Loretta and Daniela Goggi the group Giardino dei Semplici and Donatella Rettore came with the actor Duilio del Prete on.
On the evening of the final, which was broadcast in color on television for the first time , a 25-member jury in the theater decided on the result. The participants competed against each other in pairs, reducing them to six, then three. In the final round Homo Sapiens was able to prevail over Collage and I Santo California. However, the Rai interrupted the television broadcast again before the winners were announced.
