Homo Sapiens is an Italian band that experienced brief success in the 1970s , winning the Sanremo Festival in 1977 .
history
The band emerged from the beat band I Tarli , founded in the late 1960s . At that time there was also guitarist Rodolfo Maltese , who later became known with Banco del Mutuo Soccorso . From 1971 the group called itself Homo Sapiens and signed a record deal with Ri-Fi under the guidance of producer Herbert Pagani . After several single releases, including the song Oh Mary Lou written by Roberto Vecchioni , the group released the self-titled debut album in 1974. In 1975 she had her first success with the ballad Tornerai, tornerò , which reached ninth place on the Italian charts. This was followed by an album of the same name and Pecos Bill in 1976 .
With the song Bella da morire , Homo Sapiens won the Sanremo Festival in 1977 , as the first band ever. The song then reached third place in the charts and gave the title of the fourth album. In 1978 the album Due mele was released , but it was not a lasting success; after another album on the Harmony label , the band officially broke up in 1982. In the 1990s the group was reorganized and since then has had occasional CD releases and concerts. In addition, Homo Sapiens appeared on television several times.
