Roberto Michele Massimo Vecchioni (born June 25, 1943 in Carate Brianza , Province of Monza and Brianza ) is an Italian cantautore and writer .

Career

Vecchioni graduated from the Università Cattolica di Milano in 1968 in classical philology . There he worked for another two years as an assistant for the history of religion and later taught Greek and Latin at humanistic grammar schools . In the 1960s he began his musical activity, between 1966 and 1967 in the band Pop Seven , then as a songwriter for well-known musicians such as Ornella Vanoni , Mina , Iva Zanicchi or Gigliola Cinquetti and from 1971 as a soloist.

At the 1973 Sanremo Festival , Vecchioni presented himself to a large audience for the first time with the song L'uomo che si gioca il cielo a dadi , followed by great success in 1977 with the song Samarcanda . This was 1978, of Lena Valaitis as Oh Cavallo (Don Quichotte) in German gecovert , with a text by Christian Heil Castle . Further successful releases in the following years were the albums Robinson (1980), Milady (1989), Per amore mio (1991), Camper (1992; awarded as album of the year by Festivalbar ), Blumùn (1993) and Il cielo capovolto (1995 ). In 1983 he was awarded the Tenco Prize and published his first book, Grande sogno , which contained poetry, song lyrics and short stories. Viaggi del tempo immobile followed in 1996 , a collection of ten stories.

The following year the studio album El bandolero stanco and the compilation Vecchioni Studio Collection were released . Vecchioni also wrote for the Enciclopedia Treccani and was awarded the Giorgio La Pira Peace Prize in 1998. In 1999 the next album appeared Sogna ragazzo sogna , 2000 Canzoni e cicogne and the book Le parole non le le portano cicogne , two years later, the album Il lanciatore di coltelli . After a brief retreat from the public, Vecchioni released the world music-oriented album Rotary Club of Malindi in 2004 , which was created in collaboration with Mauro Pagani . In that year he was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Officer).

After the live album Il contastorie he moved to Universal , where the next album Di rabbia e di stelle was released in 2007 , at the same time as the publication of the volume of poetry Di sogni e d'amore . At the Sanremo Festival 2009 he accompanied the newcomer Chiara Canzian (daughter of Red Canzian ). Finally, he entered the race in Sanremo in 2011 with the song Chiamami ancora amore and won both the overall and the critics' award. The album Chiamami ancora amore was subsequently released, and the compilation Colori del buio followed in the same year . In 2013 Vecchioni released the new studio album Io non appartengo più . He had his first film role in Sergio Castellitto's film Nessuno si salva da solo in 2015.
