Carate Brianza is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 18,046 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 13 kilometers north of Monza am Lambro on the edge of the Parco della Valle del Lambro .
history
Settlement finds from the Middle Ages can now be found in the Archaeological Museum of Milan . The building of a tower by the Lombard queen Theudelinde is attested in the early Middle Ages .
traffic
The place is close to Strada Statale 36 from Milan to Lecco . The former interurban tram to Milan has been closed since 1982. However, there is a train station (Carate Calò) on the non-electrified railway line from Monza to Molteno .
Sports
For a few years, the automobile racing team Team Merzario was based in Carate Brianza, and from 1977 to 1979 they took part in the Formula 1 World Championship and later in the Formula 2 European Championship with vehicles they had designed themselves .
