Nova Milanese is a town with 23,348 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Monza and Brianza , in the Lombardy region . The original name was just "Nova", it was later added to "Milanese" to distinguish it from other communities with the same name in Italy. The place name should not be confused with Novate Milanese , which is just a few kilometers further east in the metropolitan city of Milan .
The neighboring towns are Cinisello Balsamo , Monza , Muggiò , Paderno Dugnano , Cusano Milanino , Sesto San Giovanni and Bresso .
Nova Milanese is conveniently located just 16 km from Milan and 6 km from Monza. The place was dominated by agriculture until the beginning of the 20th century. The Villoresi Canal , opened in 1881, which crosses the city, facilitated the transport of agricultural products to the respective markets and enabled better irrigation of the soil. After the Second World War, Nova Milanese developed into a rapidly growing industrial location, especially for small and medium-sized companies.
