Agrate Brianza is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 15,605 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 6.5 kilometers east of Monza and about 17 kilometers northeast of Milan . The municipality borders on the metropolitan city of Milan . Near Agrate is the 40,000 square meter lake La Vasca Vollano .

In 745 an accommodation for pilgrims and the poor in Agrate is mentioned in a will. 835 the rule of the Archbishop of Milan is proven.
Economy and Transport
Agrate Brianza is located in the northeast quadrant of the motorway junction between the Autostrada A51 (the Tangeziale Est of Milan) and the Autostrada A4 ( Turin - Trieste ). The favorable location has led to the settlement of some IT companies (including STMicroelectronics ).
