Bovisio Masciago (also with a hyphen) is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 17,044 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy . The municipality is located in the Padanian Plain about 15 kilometers north of Milan and about 12 kilometers northwest of Monza . It borders on the metropolitan city of Milan . The Seveso River flows through the municipality .
history
In 1928 the localities of Bovisio and Masciago Milanese were merged. This is how today's community came into being. The names are derived from Latin place names. Bovisio comes from bovis otium , Masciago from martis ager .
