Usmate Velate is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 10,460 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy . The municipality is located about 10 kilometers northeast of Monza and about 24 kilometers northeast of Milan . It borders directly on the province of Lecco .

history

Usmate is said to coincide with the ancient settlement of Uocimate , while Velates is first mentioned in 920.

In 1869, Usmate and Velate jointly form the Usmate Velate parish.

At Usmate Velate the autostrada A51 , the north-east tangenziale of Milan, changes into the former Strada Statale 342dir (Briantea) , which has now been downgraded to a provincial road. In the neighboring municipality of Carnate , the Carnate-Usmate train station is on the lines from Monza to Lecco and from Seregno to Bergamo . There is also a connection to the Milan S-Bahn with the S8 .
