The 64th edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 2014 from February 18th to 22nd at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Fabio Fazio and Luciana Littizzetto . The winner of the competition was Arisa with Controvento .
organization
The festival was organized by Italy's public broadcaster Rai . The moderator team made up of Fabio Fazio and Luciana Littizzetto was on duty for the second time in a row, Fazio also remained the artistic director ( direttore artistico ) of the event. Mauro Pagani was responsible for the musical direction ( direzione musicale ) , the stage equipment was provided by Emanuela Trixie Zitkowsky and directed by Duccio Forzano .

Each participant presented two different songs on the first two evenings, one of which made it to the next round. The final evaluation only took into account the successful song.

On the first evening seven of the 14 participants from the Campioni category presented two songs each, of which the song with the most votes qualified for the third evening. 50% of the vote was determined by the televoting and 50% by the press jury. In addition, the eight participants in the newcomer category were introduced.

Second evening
On the second evening, the remaining seven of the 14 participants from the Campioni category each presented two songs, of which the song with the most votes qualified for the third evening. As before, the vote consisted of 50% televoting and 50% the votes of the press jury.
Four of the eight participants in the Nuove Proposte also presented their contributions. The two best entries reached the final of the category, which took place on the fifth evening.

Third evening
On the third evening, the 14 Campioni each presented their winning song from the first two evenings. The audience could vote for their favorites by televoting; this preliminary ranking made up 25% of the final result. After Riccardo Sinigallia was disqualified on the same day, he only appeared out of competition.
The remaining four of the eight participants in the Nuove Proposte also presented their contributions. The two best entries reached the final of the category on the fifth evening (voting on 50% televoting, 50% press jury).

Fourth evening
On the fourth evening, entitled Sanremo Club , the 14 participants (including the disqualified Riccardo Sinigallia) each presented a cover of a song from the history of Italian popular music.
In the final of the Nuove Proposte , the winner was determined from the four finalists after a final vote (50% televoting and 50% quality jury).

The final had the lowest ratings of all Sanremo finals since the start of the measurement in 1989, which meant that the 2014 festival could be considered a flop.
