Dergin Tokmak
Dergin Tokmak , also known under the stage name Stix (born December 26, 1973 in Augsburg ) is a German dancer and acrobat who became known for dancing on crutches .
Life and career
As the son of Turkish parents, Dergin Tokmak contracted polio when he was one year old . As a result, he lost control of his left and partly also of his right leg. Despite his long childhood in German hospitals, none of the treatments was able to restore full leg control. He learned to walk on his hands .
Influenced by the movie Breakin ' (1984), he began to perfect his own style of dancing on crutches at the age of 12. He then immersed himself in the breakdance and hip-hop scene in Germany and won prizes in dance competitions.
From 2004 to 2011 Tokmak was the only German artist and the only physically handicapped artist in the role of the "limping angel" in the ensemble of the Cirque du Soleil for their global tour "Varekai".
In 2010 he appeared in the Swiss documentary The Rising Sun (director: Fabian Kimoto). In 2011 he reached the final of the German TV show Das Supertalent and became known to a wide audience. In 2012 his autobiography Stix was published: My way to the dancer on crutches .
