Wolfram von den Steinen (born November 23, 1892 in Colonie Alsen , today Berlin , † November 20, 1967 in Basel ) was a German - Swiss historian .

The son of the medical doctor and explorer Karl von den Steinen studied classical philology , history and art history at the universities of Lausanne , Heidelberg , Leipzig , Berlin and Marburg . He received his doctorate in 1921 under Friedrich Wolters in Marburg. In 1928 he received his habilitation at the University of Basel , where he was appointed associate professor for medieval source studies and general history of the Middle Ages in 1938. He was close to the George circle and its ideas without having been in personal contact with Stefan George . As a historian, he portrayed great people of the Middle Ages. In 1954 he was awarded the Lake Constance Literature Prize of the city of Überlingen. At the same time, he was the first prize winner.
