Paolo Giovanni Nutini (born January 9, 1987 in Paisley ) is a Scottish singer and songwriter of Italian origin.

music

Nutini is often described as a singer / songwriter, but influences from indie rock , soul , pop , jazz , ska and folk can be found in his music . In his songs, influences from artists such as David Bowie , Joe Cocker , Oasis , The Beatles , Jack Johnson , Pink Floyd , Otis Redding or Fleetwood Mac can also be recognized. Above all, his voice makes him and his music what it is. His voice shows a remarkable diversity, which can vary between rough register and soft singing.

biography

The Nutini family has owned a fish'n'chips joint in their hometown of Paisley for four generations, which his parents still run. Paolo's father hoped his son would get into the family business and take over the business, but Paolo was early on working towards a music career. His talent was discovered by his grandfather, who introduced Paolo to traditional Scottish folk songs, and his teacher at St Andrews Academy. He dropped out of school to work as a roadie, t-shirt seller, and studio helper. At the age of 17, Paolo left his family in Scotland and, to make his dream come true, moved to London, where he performed regularly in pubs. Word of his talent quickly spread and record companies soon noticed him. Shortly after his 18th birthday, Nutini signed his first major recording deal with Atlantic Records . A few weeks later he went with producer Ken Nelson, who u. a. worked as a producer for Coldplay at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool and recorded his debut album These Streets . The success of the first single was promising: Last Request rose to number 5 in the UK charts and to number 1 in his home country of Scotland in the first week. His album These Streets was released in Germany on September 15, 2006. Before that, two singles had already been released from May 2006 , the first ( These Streets ) only being distributed as a free Internet download. For Nutini himself, These Streets is not only the way into the music business, but also serves as a way of coming to terms with his past. "Basically, the album is an autobiographical journey, a diary if you like, of my last three years." "It's an album like a diary of my last three years." Nutini was in support of KT Tunstall , Amy Winehouse and Ian Archer . At the end of January 2006 he was the "hot ticket" at the South X Southwest Festival in Austin Texas and in April 2006 he accompanied his idol Paul Weller on his tour as a support act . On December 10, 2007, Nutini performed the " Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert", as a preliminary act to Led Zeppelin 's first live concert in 27 years. In 2007 he appeared at the "Rock im Park" and "Pinkpop" festivals. In June 2009 Nutini's second album Sunny Side Up was released , with which he conquered the top of the British charts and also landed at number 15 in the German album charts. The album was created in collaboration with producer Ethan Johns ( Kings of Leon , Razorlight ) and was recorded in several studios, including in Ireland, Wales, New York and Bath. The sound of the entire album is very different from its predecessor. For the recordings, he brought his band The Vipers, with whom he also played live. Nutini has performed at the legendary Glastonbury Festival in recent years . His third studio album Caustic Love was released in April 2014 .
