Paul Weller
Paul Weller (* 25. May 1958 in Woking , Surrey , England as John William Weller ) is a British singer , musician , composer and fashion designer . Paul Weller is generally known as the “ Godfather of Britpop ” and an eternal mod .
Life
Paul Weller became known as the singer and guitarist of the British band The Jam (1972–1982). After their dissolution, he founded the band The Style Council (1983-1989) together with Mick Talbot . Since 1992 he has been working as a solo artist; his best-known solo albums are Wild Wood (1993) and Stanley Road (1995), which achieved quadruple platinum status in the UK .
The other releases were not quite as successful, but still achieved good chart positions in the UK. In 2004 the album Studio 150 was released , which consisted exclusively of cover versions . With his album As Is Now , released in 2005, Weller again delivered his own compositions, which received consistently very good reviews.
At the BRIT Awards 2006 Paul Weller was honored for his "Outstanding Contribution to British Music". The award is considered to be the highest distinction that the UK record industry can bestow. In 2009 Paul Weller was again honored with a BRIT Award for best male solo artist.
Paul Weller is known for his often harsh criticism of the British establishment - he was one of the harshest critics of fox hunting as early as the 1980s -, his sharp-tongued, publicly expressed comments on the grievances in his home country, because of his radical pacifist views and because of his uncompromisingly socialist character political opinion in Great Britain is not undisputed. In the 1980s, he and Billy Bragg founded the “Red Wedge” project, the aim of which was to interest young people in (social democratic) politics and political engagement.
He designed polo shirts for the traditional English brand Fred Perry . They are reminiscent of shirts that Weller wore as a member of The Jam in the 1970s. The limited models are made on the original looms from back then. Paul Weller designed his first own collection in 2011 for Pretty Green , the fashion label of singer friend Liam Gallagher .
From 1985 to 1998 Weller was married to the British singer Dee C Lee , who worked for Wham! From 1982 to 1983 . and sang the backing vocals for The Style Council from 1985 to 1987 . Weller and Lee have a son (Natt) and a daughter (Leah) together. Another daughter (Dylan) emerges from the short-term relationship with make-up artist Lucy. Two other children connect him with Samantha Stock, with whom Weller was in a relationship from the mid-1990s to 2008. In September 2010, Weller married Hannah Andrews, who can be heard as the backing singer on the album 22 Dreams . The couple have two sons.
