Francesco Renga (born June 12, 1968 in Udine ; actually Pierfrancesco Renga ) is an Italian singer and songwriter .

Life

Renga lost his mother in childhood and grew up with a surrogate mother near Brescia . As a teenager he started making music with local bands. At the age of sixteen he took part in the Deskomusic music competition with his band Modus Vivendi , which he founded with friends . The band Timoria (at that time still under the name Precious Time ), which Renga joined , also applied for the same competition . In the following thirteen years Renga released seven albums with the band.

After a falling out within the band at the end of 1998, Renga took a creative break to return to the public as a soloist in 2000. His first album, titled Francesco Renga , reached number 38 on the Italian album charts . However, he only became known to the general public two years later with the album Tracce ("traces"). With the included song Tracce di te ("Traces of you") Renga took part in the Sanremo Festival 2002 ( 2001 he already took part in the young talent category) and was able to occupy one of the top places.

The album Camere con vista ("Room with a View") that followed in 2004 finally helped him achieve his breakthrough in Italy. With the song Angelo ("Engel") he won the 55th Sanremo Festival in 2005 and reached the top of the single charts for the first time . Renga first reached number one on the Italian album charts two years later with his album Ferro e cartone , which was accompanied by autobiographical short stories in his book Come mi viene - Vite di ferro e cartone .

In 2009 Renga again took part in the Sanremo Festival with L'uomo senza età and released the cover album Orchestra e voce with orchestra . The following year the next studio album, Un giorno bellissimo, followed . He returned to Sanremo in 2012 with La tua bellezza ; the song found its way into the compilation Fermoimmagine . After moving to Sony , he first recorded a Spanish-language album. For the film Razzabastarda he contributed the song La vita possibile , which was nominated for a David di Donatello as best film song. At the Sanremo Festival 2014 he reached fourth place with Vivendo adesso .

Following the participation in Sanremo, the album Tempo reale was released , which brought the singer back to the top of the chart. The single Il mio giorno più bello nel mondo was also a number one success in the summer. In 2016 Renga returned with the album Scriverò il tuo nome . The following tour resulted in a live album in 2017, in the same year he also began a project with Max Pezzali and Nek , which culminated in the live album Max Nek Renga - Il disco in 2018 . In the fifth season of the talent show The Voice of Italy , Renga first appeared as a coach, alongside Al Bano , J-Ax and Cristina Scabbia . With Aspetto che torni he took part in the 2019 Sanremo Festival .

Private

Renga is married to the actress Ambra Angiolini . They have two children together, Jolanda (2004) and Leonardo (2006).
