Jarabe de Palo

Jarabe de Palo (also: Jarabedepalo between 2009 and 2014 ) is a Spanish Latin rock band. It was founded in 1997 in Barcelona . Your front man was the singer, guitarist and songwriter Pau Donés (1966-2020). In 1997 they became internationally known with their hit La Flaca .

history

Pau Donés played in various bands before he could realize his current project, Jarabe de Palo. At the age of 15 he founded a group called "J. & Co. Band" in St. Feliu de Guixols with his brother Marc and John Kleinjung and then played in another band called Dentaduras Postizas. During this time he combined his musical activities in bars in Barcelona with work in an advertising agency. The success overtook him through a trip to Cuba, where he got the inspiration for the song "La Flaca", which was also the title of his first CD of the same name in 1996. His first song became famous a year later through a commercial, which resulted in his CD being sold millions of times in different countries. In addition, the title became one of the summer hits of 1997. The band describes the CD as: "11 simple and straightforward songs with no great demands. Music in the medium tempo and lyrics with the message from the experience of 31 years of sun and shade. Through the success of the On the first CD, Pau tried to show that the band was not a "one-hit wonder." With this in mind, they released the CD "Depende" (1998), which was recorded by Joe Dworniak (known in Spain for his work with Radio Futura) in Moody de Londres Studios was produced in two months and featured bands such as Ketama on the CD, and the songs were infused with ironic lyrics that managed to connect with Spanish audiences and even appeal to Italian audiences.

In 2001 they released the CD "De vuelta y vuelta", which is a pure concept album. It shows a change in the group in the first video clip of the album, in which Pau has his head shaved and parted from his long hair. On this CD you could count on the collaboration of Antonio Vega, Jovanotti, Vico C and Celia Cruz.

In 2003 the group made a turn with the song "Bonito" towards cheerful and positive songs, with the participation of artists such as "Mártires del Compás", the singer Elena Andújar and the Italian friend of the band Jovanotti.

Already in autumn 2004 they announced a tour with their new work "1m2", in which friends like Jorge Drexler, Lucrecia and Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) also took part.

In spring 2007 the band presented their new album entitled “Adelantando”, from which the song “Ole” could be heard on the radio from mid-March until the full album was released on April 10th. The tour of the new album started in May, lasted all summer and led through Spain and Europe. The second single that was released from the CD in collaboration with La Mari de Chambao was "Déjame Vivir". The song "A tu lado" was used for commercials on radio and television for Hipermercados Hipercor (Spanish Department Store). Also on this album there was a collaboration with La Shica y Carlos Tarque.

In mid-2008 Jarabe de Palo set up their own record company, Tronco Records. It's more than a record company, it's a music workshop where the songs are the most important thing. This new project starts with the single "mucho más, mucho mejor", which is sold exclusively on the Internet via its website Jarabedepalo and other digital providers. The old band name Jarabe de Palo was replaced by Jarabedepalo. After the success of the “Reciclando Tour”, the band's first CD book with 15 new songs, versions of their most popular hits and their new song mucho más mucho mejor was published on March 1, 2009 under the title “Orquesta Reciclando” . Regarding their live concerts, Jarabedepalo is continuing with the Reciclando tour, which has been revised and adapted for major stages in Spain, Europe and America.

The band received two awards for their music, on the one hand the Premios Ondas (Spanish prize) and a nomination for the Grammy. At the said gala, the group sang the song Guantanamera with Pavarotti and Celia Cruz , and when they parted , they sang the Beatles song With a little help from my friends , as well as their hit La Flaca .
