Claudio Baglioni
Claudio Baglioni (* 16th May 1951 in Rome as Claudio Enrico Paolo Baglioni ) is an Italian singer-songwriter and singer, who joined the 1970th
With the album Questo piccolo grande amore (1972) and the title song of the same name, a success that continues to this day began; Baglioni topped the album charts twelve times . In the beginning he mainly expressed "feelings common among young people" in his music, but over the years his style changed to "an ever more mature and more articulate musical sensitivity". The lack of socially critical content set him apart from many of his music colleagues and led to a brief loss of popularity at the end of the 1980s; nevertheless, he has retained a protagonist role in the Italian music scene to this day.
biography
Beginnings
Claudio Baglioni was born in Rome as the son of a carabiniere and a seamstress. He grew up in Centocelle and from 1965 took part in various newcomer singing competitions. He had his first paid public appearance in 1966. The following year, Baglioni wrote his first song with Annabel Lee , inspired by the poems of Edgar Allan Poe . After the first audition and other self-written songs, which were later sung by other musicians (such as Mia Martini and Rita Pavone ), Baglioni received a contract with the record label RCA Italiana in 1969 . His first self-titled album was released there as early as 1970 with the support of producer Antonio Coggio , who accompanied him for many years; despite participating in the Un disco per l'estate competition , there was no notable success. In 1971 the album Un cantastorie dei giorni nostri followed .
Success and setbacks
In 1972, Baglioni recorded three songs for the film Brother Sun, Sister Moon by director Franco Zeffirelli . With the title song Fratello sole, sorella luna , he achieved his first single success in the charts. In addition, Rita Pavone landed a success in the French charts with the song he wrote, Bonjour la France . Baglioni's breakthrough this year was his third album Questo piccolo grande amore . The concept album's title track was a number one hit and has proven to be "one of the greatest and longest lasting successes in the Italian canzone d'autore " with "several generations of Italians". From 1973 Baglioni released another four successful albums with RCA, which secured him a large following of fans. The 1974 album E tu… , in which Vangelis was also involved, won an award at the festival bar competition. This was followed by successes in Spain and South America, in 1975 the musician toured Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela and Mexico. After soloing (1977) and touring the USA and Canada, Baglioni switched to the CBS label.
The first album on CBS was E tu come stai? (1978). After further international tours his album Strada facendo was released in 1981 , which was followed by further successful concerts and a live album. With Avrai , written to mark the birth of his son Giovanni, he had another number one hit in 1982. In 1985 Baglioni's tenth studio album La vita è adesso was released , the singer also appeared as a guest at the Sanremo Festival in 1985 and received the award for the most beautiful song of the century (for Questo piccolo grande amore ). With Notti di Note the first official biography published about Baglioni. In 1988 his appearance at a charity concert organized by Amnesty International (AI) in Turin , in which he represented Italy alongside Peter Gabriel , Sting , Bruce Springsteen , Tracy Chapman and Youssou N'Dour , led to a career dip : because he was unlike many of his Italian colleagues did not address any socially critical aspects in his songs and was regarded as the main representative of the "languishing Liebesschnulze" (canzone sentimentale tormentata) , his presence was rejected by large parts of the audience and answered with whistles and bottles. AI President Franca Sciuto justified Baglioni's choice with the fact that among his colleagues (such as Zucchero or Angelo Branduardi ) he was best able to move masses and address a young audience. Baglioni temporarily withdrew from the public.
Now with Sony Music , Baglioni released his next album Oltre in 1990, on which international musicians such as Paco de Lucía , Youssou N'Dour , Didier Lockwood , Tony Levin and Manu Katché also had guest appearances. In the following years he went on several tours again, which subsequently included the live albums Assieme and Ancorassieme . In 1995 the next studio album Io sono qui followed . On October 27, 1996 he took part in the World Food Day Concert in Rome at the invitation of the FAO . That year, Baglioni also began to present himself more on television. For Christmas 1996 he performed in the Vatican . A major TV appearance was in 1997 when he participated in the music program Anima mia with Fabio Fazio , in which he performed well-known songs from the 1970s. Baglioni later published the presented songs on the cover album Anime in gioco . In 1998, the Italian Football Association, FIGC, commissioned the singer to compose the anthem Da me a te to mark its centenary . this song, which Baglioni presented before the international match between Italy and Paraguay, brought him another number one hit. He continued his TV presence with live broadcasts of his concerts in the main RAI program , but the TV show L'ultimo valzer (again together with Fazio) in 1999 did not achieve the hoped-for success. His next album Viaggiatore sulla coda del tempo was released in 1999 , followed by concerts and several live albums.
Since 2000
In 2003, Baglioni was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Commander) by President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi . In that year he also released his album Sono io, l'uomo della storia accanto , with which he was able to build on earlier successes. This was followed by a tour across Italy, with guest appearances by a large number of his fellow singers, including Andrea Bocelli , Laura Pausini , Gianni Morandi , Biagio Antonacci and Renato Zero . Further appearances and concerts were reflected in various live albums.
In order to draw attention to the problems of migration, Baglioni was active for the O'Scià Foundation from 2003 to 2012 and organized benefit concerts with a large number of his music colleagues. In May 2004, he appeared as coach of the Italians in a friendly game for charity between an English singing team and the Italian Nazionale italiana cantanti ; the following year he played for the team himself. In June of that year, Baglioni graduated from La Sapienza University with a degree in architecture . In 2005 and 2006 the singer released two three-part best-of albums under the titles Tutti qui and Gli altri tutti qui . For the Winter Olympics in Turin he wrote the official anthem Va '/ Go ; he also participated as a torchbearer .
Based on the new QPGA project , the new tour A prima vista started in November 2008 . QPGA stands for Questo piccolo grande amore and is a large-scale reworking of the 1972 album, which was accompanied by a film of the same name by Riccardo Donna and a novel by Baglioni. The double album QPGA was released at the end of 2009, after a tour, and in addition to the newly edited titles from the original, it also contained new songs and various guest contributions. Until 2010, Baglioni was touring Italy with the subsequent ConcertOpera tour (directed by Duccio Forzano ). Later that year he followed up with an international tour.
After an anniversary edition of Strada facendo 2011, Baglioni returned in 2012 with the Christmas album Un piccolo Natale in più , which contained cover versions of well-known international Christmas carols . In the following year he started the ConVoi project , in the course of which he published new songs on a weekly basis exclusively via the iTunes Store ; thus he achieved new successes in the single charts, and the album that was subsequently released was also successful. In 2015 Baglioni's new book Inter nos was published , and together with Gianni Morandi he started the project Capitani coraggiosi .
As artistic director and moderator (at the side of Michelle Hunziker and Pierfrancesco Favino ) Baglioni presented the Sanremo Festival 2018 . He also took on this role in 2019 .
