Litfiba is an influential Italian rock band formed in Florence in 1980 . Initially the leading exponent of New Wave in Italy, the band managed to strengthen the Italian indie scene and make rock music commercially successful.
Band history
The band was formed in Florence in 1980 with the original line-up Ghigo Renzulli (guitar and vocals), Sandro Dotta (guitar), Gianni Maroccolo (bass), Antonio Aiazzi (keyboard) and Francesco Calamai (drums). The name was formed as a Telex abbreviation for the address of the first rehearsal room (L + IT [Italy] + FI [Florence] + BA [via de 'Bardi]). After a few smaller releases (including the EP Eneide di Krypton ) and several line-up changes, the band's first studio album, Desaparecido , was released in 1985 on the IRA Records label , with Piero Pelù as a singer. The album marked the beginning of the Trilogia del Potere ("Trilogy of Power"), which was continued in 1986 with the sensational double album 17 re . After a live album, the band concluded the trilogy in 1988 with Litfiba 3 and finally managed to become known beyond the underground scene.
Litfiba then switched to the label CGD , where the live album Pirata was released in 1989 . Further line-up changes affected the band's sound, and South American influences flowed into the next studio album, El diablo (1990). After the compilation Sogno ribelle (1992) and an extensive international tour, Litfiba returned in 1993 with Terremoto , who was heavily influenced by contemporary politics and who made it to the top of the charts for the first time. Now at EMI , the live album Colpo di coda followed in 1994 and the next successful studio album Spirito . By 1999 the band had two more number one albums, Mondi sommersi and Infinito , each accompanied by tours and live albums. After the Infinito tour, singer Piero Pelù announced his departure.
Gianluigi Cavallo became the new singer, at the same time there was a general replacement, only guitarist Ghigo Renzulli remained in the band. In early 2000, the new lineup debuted with the album Electromacumba , followed by Insidia (2001). The band also increasingly dealt with new technologies and released exclusive material only via the Internet. For the Italian version of the computer game Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003) the band contributed the track Larasong . After the release of Essere o sembrare on the Edel label , singer Cavallo left again in 2006. Renzulli re-cast the band again, with Filippo Margheri as singer, but in 2010 the long-awaited reunion with Piero Pelù came about by fans .
The first album after the reunion was the live album Stato libero di Litfiba , created after the first joint concerts. The first studio album was Grande nazione 2012, which also meant a return to the top of the charts for the band. The founding members Gianni Maroccolo and Antonio Aiazzi also briefly rejoined Litfiba for a tour in 2013, which resulted in the live album Trilogia 1983-1989 - Live 2013 . In 2016, however, the second studio album after the reunion, Eutòpia , was released .
