Ivano Fossati
Ivano Fossati (born September 21, 1951 in Genoa ) is an Italian cantautore (songwriter) and rock musician . He is a six-time winner of the Targa Tenco and has also made a name for himself as a songwriter for well-known Italian musicians and composer of film music .
In the course of his career, Fossati has worked with international and Italian musicians from various genres such as Trilok Gurtu , Tony Levin , Enrico Rava , Uña Ramos , Guy Barker , Nguyên Lê , Tiziano Ferro or Francesco De Gregori and translated song texts by Chico Buarque , Silvio Rodríguez , Djavan or Supertramp .
Career
As a child, Fossati came into contact with music at an early age and began playing the piano at the age of eight . He made his first experiences in the musical public with Italian beat bands , which at the time were increasingly turning to progressive rock . In 1971 he recorded the debut album Dolce Acqua with his own band Delirium . With the song Jesahel the group took part in the Sanremo Festival in 1972 and reached sixth place; as a result, the song became a number one hit and the album was also a huge success. But Fossati was interested in a solo career and quickly left the band.
He started his solo career in 1973 with the album Il grande mare che avremmo traversato , which was quickly followed by Poco prima dell'aurora (1974) and Good-Bye Indiana (1975). He then moved from the Fonit-Cetra label to RCA, where he made his debut in 1977 with La casa del serpente . In addition, he began to write music for plays and later also occasionally for films. The breakthrough came in 1979 with the Fossati still the rock influenced album La mia banda suona il rock from which the successful single of the same name came from. Mia Martini won the critic's award at the 1982 Sanremo Festival with the song E non finisce mica il cielo, written by Fossati , whereupon he was also in demand as a songwriter and music producer: he wrote songs for Mina , Patty Pravo , Fiorella Mannoia , Gianni Morandi , Ornella Vanoni , Anna Oxa , Loredana Bertè and many more.
With his following albums, the musician embarked on a genre search and increasingly turned away from rock. In 1981 Panama e dintorni was released , the last album on RCA. After moving to CBS, Fossati continued production with the albums Le città di frontiera (1983) and Ventilazione (1984). For the successor 700 giorni he was awarded the Targa Tenco in 1986 for album of the year. La pianta del tè (with the Targa Tenco award-winning song Questi posti davanti al mare ) ushered in a particularly successful creative phase in 1988, both artistically and commercially: These were the studio albums Discanto (1990), Lindbergh (1992) and Macramè (1996), all three awarded the Targa Tenco. In 1991 Fossati's first book Il giullare was published , and in 1993 a two-part live album.
In 1996 Fossati also worked closely with Fabrizio De André on his album Anime salve , which won a Targa Tenco just like the song Prinçesa . In 2000 he reported back with the album La disciplina della terra . The following year he published the instrumental album Not One Word on Sony Classical , and the book Carte da decifrare was also published . The next sung studio album Lampo viaggiatore barely missed the top of the chart in 2003, the following tour culminated in another live album in 2004. In 2004 he also released the charity single Mio fratello che guardi il mondo for the benefit of Amnesty International . With the album L'arcangelo Fossati reached number one in the Italian album charts for the first time in 2006.
After switching to EMI, he was able to directly continue the successful series with the album Musica moderna (2008). In the same year he contributed the song L'amore trasparente to the film Stilles Chaos by Antonello Grimaldi , which won both a David di Donatello and a Nastro d'Argento for best film song. The next studio album Decadancing reached the top of the chart again in 2011. At the same time as the album and the autobiography Tutto questo futuro were released , Fossati announced his withdrawal from the public. In 2012 one last live album was published, in 2014 the novel Tretrecinque . With the compilation Contemporaneo in 2016, after a long break, the musician gave another musical sign of life; Not until 2019 did he return to the studio and record the album Mina / Fossati with Mina .
