Tiziano Ferro (born February 21, 1980 in Latina ) is an Italian pop singer and music producer . He made his debut in 2001 with the single Perdono , which was an international hit, and has since released seven studio albums and one best-of album . Ferro sings in Italian, Spanish and English. As a producer, he was responsible for newcomers like Alessandra Amoroso , Giusy Ferreri or Baby K responsibility.

life and career

The beginnings

Ferro's first experiences with music included guitar, drum and piano courses. In 1996, at the age of 16, he joined a gospel choir in his hometown of Latina. For the next two years he also attended a film dubbing course and worked as a speaker on several local radio stations in his town.

The attempt to take part in the Sanremo Festival in 1998 failed because he was already eliminated from the Accademia della Canzone di Sanremo shortlist. He did not succeed in participating in the festival for the following year either, after making it among the twelve finalists of the Accademia with the song Quando ritornerai , but not among the top three qualified for the festival. In the context of the Sanremo Festival, however, Ferro caught the attention of producers Alberto Salerno and Mara Maionchi, who offered to work with him.

After graduating from the scientific grammar school in Latina, Ferro began studying engineering in Rome, but switched to communication studies a little later . In spring 1999 he accompanied the Italian hip-hop band Sottotono as a background singer on their tour. Meanwhile, Ferro was working on his own songs with Salemo and Majonchi, and producer Michele Canova Iorfida joined them in 2000 .

The first successes

After several negative reactions from record labels, Tiziano Ferro signed a contract with the record label EMI in May 2001 with the support of producer Fabrizio Giannini , his future manager . The first single Xdono (outside Italy: Perdono ) reached the top of the charts in Italy and became a summer hit .

The following October, his debut album Rosso Relativo came out. While further single successes followed in Italy, Perdono was released across Europe in 2002. In the summer of the year, Ferro finally received an award as Newcomer of the Year at the Festivalbar competition . Ferro also achieved success in Spanish-speaking countries, where the album was released as Rojo relativo , which in 2003 also earned him a nomination at the Latin Grammys . In Germany he appeared as a newcomer at the New Pop Festival by SWR3 at the DaimlerChrysler plant in Rastatt .

The final breakthrough

On November 7, 2003 Tiziano Ferro released his second album 111 (published in Germany in the written form Centoundici ). Numerous singles were extracted from this, including Xverso (in the rest of Europe: Perverso ), Sere Nere (part of the soundtrack of Tre metri sopra il cielo ), Ti voglio bene and Non me lo so spiegare . Also in 2003, the musician decided to move to Mexico , where he began studying translation studies. In the summer of 2004 he achieved another number one hit with Universal Prayer , the official anthem of the Olympic Games in Athens , in a duet with Jamelia . In 2005 he dubbed the role of Oscar in the movie Big Sharks - Small Fish . After graduating from Mexico in 2005, Ferro moved to London .

The third album

Even before the single Stop! Dimentica , which immediately reached the top of the Italian charts, came out on June 23, 2006 after a break of almost three years, the album Nessuno è solo . It held number one in the Italian charts for a month and a top five place for half a year. The second single from the album, Ed ero contentissimo (accompanied by a video clip shot in Barcelona ) also achieved great success.

In May 2006, Tiziano Ferro participated in the show Che tempo che fa by Fabio Fazio part and declared in the course of an interview, Mexican women have mustaches. This statement caused violent disputes and criticism not only in Mexico and put a lasting damper on the musician's popularity in Latin America.

That year Tiziano Ferro could also be heard on the albums Le band si sciolgono by the Italian singer Luca Carboni and on Io canto by Laura Pausini . He also appeared as the duet partner of Michele Zarrillo at the Sanremo Festival . At the end of the year he took part in the Christmas concert in the Vatican and appeared again as a guest (but without taking part in the competition) at the 2007 Sanremo Festival.

Alla mia età

Ferro's fourth album Alla mia età was released on November 7, 2008 in Italy and on March 13, 2009 in Germany. The album was preceded on October 3rd by the single of the same name, which immediately reached number one in the Italian charts.

This was followed by four more singles in Italy. The English version of Indietro's third single , Breathe Gentle , a duet with singer Kelly Rowland, was released internationally . Alla mia età became the best-selling album in Italy in 2009. In early 2010, Tiziano Ferro recorded the duet Each Tear with singer Mary J. Blige , which again reached number one in Italy.

In October 2010, Tiziano Ferro published the book Trent'anni e una chiacchierata con papà (“Thirty years and a conversation with my father”), which was preceded by an interview on Vanity Fair in which he came out as homosexual . The book was created from the singer's diary entries from 1995 to 2010.

L'amore è una cosa semplice

The fifth album L'amore è una cosa semplice was released in Italy on November 28, 2011, the first single La differenza dream came out on October 14 and reached number 2 in the Italian charts. The album was preceded by another book publication Ferros, which contains his diary entries 2010-2011. The tour started on April 10th in Turin .

The album was released in German-speaking countries on May 25, 2012; the first single from it, L'amore è una cosa semplice / Love is simple , which Ferro recorded with Cassandra Steen , was released on April 13, 2012.

Best of and sixth album

On October 17, 2014, the single Senza scappare mai più , which preceded the compilation album TZN - The Best of Tiziano Ferro , was released, along with other unreleased songs, the greatest hits, rarities and duets. The album was released on November 25th of that year in four different editions.

In 2016 Ferro returned to the top of the single charts with Potremmo ritornare . The single preceded the fifth studio album Il mestiere della vita . At the Sanremo Festival 2017 Ferro appeared as a guest and presented a. a. the duet with Carmen Consoli Il conforto and a cover version of the song Mi sono innamorato di te by Luigi Tenco . An extended tour of Italian stadiums followed in the summer of that year.
