Jamelia ; actually Jamelia Niela Davis (* 11. January 1981 in Birmingham ) is a British pop - and Contemporary R & B - singer and songwriter .

Life

Davis was born to a Jamaican mother and a Zimbabwean father. She spent much of her childhood in downtown Aston . After sending in self-written a cappella songs, she received a recording contract with Parlophone in 1996 at the age of 15 .

After intensive studio work, Parlophone released Davis' first single So High in 1999 . The following year the debut album Drama followed . The Beenie Man collaboration Money , published in 2000, became the most successful single on the album and placed fifth on the UK single charts. In the wake of the success, Davis was then nominated for five MOBO Awards .

After the birth of their daughter in March 2001, Davis decided to take a long break from the music business. In the same year she started work on her second album, the first release of which, Bout , hit the UK charts in spring 2003. Her international breakthrough came with the single Superstar , which jumped to the top of the UK charts in September 2003 and successfully stayed in the top ten of the European hit lists in the following months. Davis then released the album Thank You , accompanied by the release of the same name and the cover stop , the soundtrack to the box office hit Bridget Jones - On the Edge of Madness . In 2004 she was part of Band Aid 20 with the non-profit single Do They Know It's Christmas? as well as with the duet Universal Prayer (with Tiziano Ferro ) represented two more times in the charts.

Davis gave birth to their second daughter on October 21, 2005. It is the first child they have with their partner, soccer player Darren Byfield . In August 2007 the couple separated. In 2006 she released her third studio album Walk with Me , the first release of which is called Something About You . This song reached number 57 in Germany. The song Beware of the Dog reached number 63 in Germany. In 2007 the ballad and last single No More was released, which just missed the top 40 in Germany.

Davis left Parlophone in 2007 and signed a new recording deal with All Around the World in 2010 .
