Initially, the magazine appeared monthly, from January 1970 bi-monthly. From March 1975 the weekly charts were published in the magazine, two per issue.

From 1995 the magazine was published weekly.

Publication of the charts

Already with the first issue in July 1959 sparked the music market , the magazine The vending market from the official publisher of the German charts. The charts, which initially appeared monthly, were more sophisticated, as they not only evaluated the music box success, but also sheet music sales, the use of airplay and sound carriers, i.e. at that time record sales. The performance by live music bands was also taken into account. The list was valid for the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany, for West Berlin and Austria. The first number 1 in the music market charts was in June 1959 the title The Guitar and the Sea by Freddy Quinn. At the same time, this title was also the front runner in the slot machine market .

In the beginning the hit parade had a strongly fluctuating size (20 to 70 places), but from the beginning of 1960 it appeared quite consistently every month with mostly 50 places (occasionally a few more, up to 54 appeared). At the beginning of 1965, the number was reduced to 40 places, but the hit parade, which was now based on pure record sales, appeared twice a month on the 1st and 15th of each month. From that time on there were also the chart posters that were displayed in record stores. At the beginning of 1971 the music market switched to weekly publication (every Monday) and increased the size of the hit parade back to 50 places. The determination of this weekly top 50 was transferred to Media Control from September 1977 .

Music market online
