Patty Pravo
Patty Pravo (born April 9, 1948 in Venice ; actually Nicoletta Strambelli ) is an Italian pop singer. Her greatest successes were the songs La bambola (1968) and Pazza idea (1973).
Career
Nicoletta Strambelli grew up in a middle-class Venetian family. Her circle of friends included Ezra Pound and Angelo Roncalli (later Johannes XXIII ). Her musical training began in her childhood. At the age of eight she had her first piano lessons with Mazzin Crovato and dance lessons. At the age of 10 she began taking piano lessons with Eugenio Bagnoli at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory before leaving her parents' home at the age of 17 to move to Rome, where she initially worked as a dancer. There she was discovered by Alberigo Crocetta . This brokered them to RCA Records . She took on the stage name Patty Pravo, a throwback to Dante Alighieri's Inferno . Pravo means "bad souls" there. Patty was a popular girl name at the time.
In 1966 their first single Ragazzo triste ("Sad Boy") was released, the Italian version of the song But You're Mine by Sonny & Cher . This was followed by Qui e là and Se te perdo . The singles made her known in the Italian beat scene . In 1968 her best-known hit La bambola was released , with which she achieved world fame. The song has sold over 40 million copies to date. Her self-titled debut album was finally released in 1968.
In 1970 she first appeared at the Sanremo Festival . There she sang the duet La spada nel cuore with Little Tony . In the 1970s she published a number of Italian cover versions of English-language pop songs by artists such as The Beatles , Neil Diamond and Jacques Brel . Her second number one hit appeared in Italy with Pazza Idea . In 1976 she worked with Vangelis and released the album Tanto . In 1979 the scandal single Pensiero stupendo was released , which is about a love triangle or a threesome . The song originally planned for the Miss Italia album had to be removed from the album.
In the 1980s she left Italy and toured all over the world, including the United States, where she lived for a while. At the Sanremo Festival in 1984 she won the Critics' Prize with Per una bambola . Musically she tried her hand at soft and synth rock . She continued to release a number of albums and singles, but the big successes failed to materialize.
There was a comeback in the 1990s. She first hit the headlines for a moment when hashish was found on her . Then she made her first trips to China. There she took part in a television show and performed in front of an audience of millions. With the album Ideogrammi , which she recorded on location, she became a star in China. There were also successes in Italy again. Their 1996 tour was sold out and the single … e dimmi che non vuoi morire became a hit. In 1997 she won the 1997 Sanremo Festival Critics' Prize with the song, which was written by Stadio singers Gaetano Curreri and Vasco Rossi , and reached 8th place in the competition. The live album Bye, bye Patty has sold around 300,000 times in Italy. Back at the top, she played other sold out tours in Italy and released new records.
For the film song Com'è bello far l'amore for the film Love Is in the Air , she received the Globo d'oro for best film music in 2012 . In 2014 she played herself in the movie Xenia - A New Greek Odyssey . In 2016 she won the 2016 Sanremo Festival Critics ' Award again with the song Cieli immensi written by Fortunato Zampaglione ; it was Pravo's ninth participation in the festival. For the tenth time the singer tried it in 2019 , this time in a duet with Briga ; Un po 'come la vita , however, ended up in 21st place.
