Marco Masini
Marco Masini (born September 18, 1964 in Florence ) is an Italian rock singer . He won the Sanremo Festival in 1990 in the Newcomer category and in 2004 with L'uomo volante in the main category.
Career
Masini took piano lessons as a child. During high school he formed the band Errata Corrige with some friends . He dropped out of school before graduation, which led to arguments with his family. In Modena he worked in a recording studio for six months, mixing music for discos . Back in Florence he learned composition with Walter Savelli, the pianist of Claudio Baglioni , while he kept himself afloat as a pianist in bars. He began to write his own songs, but was initially rejected by the labels.
Masini then worked with the studio owner Bob Rosati from Sesto Fiorentino and the songwriter Beppe Dati. In 1986 he finally met Giancarlo Bigazzi , who offered him a number of opportunities to show his talent. Masini was involved in film soundtracks ( Mediterraneo , Forever Mery , Survival in Palermo ), sang the demo for the later Sanremo winning song Si può dare di più ( Enrico Ruggeri , Gianni Morandi , Umberto Tozzi ) and played as a live musician with Umberto Tozzi in the Royal Albert Hall (he was also responsible for the arrangements). In 1987 he went on tour himself and then accompanied Raf , on whose album Cosa resterà ... he had also worked. His first own single came out in 1988 with Uomini .
In 1990 Masini entered the newcomer category at the Sanremo Festival and won with the song Disperato . He then released his self-titled debut album. In 1991 he returned to Sanremo with Perché lo fai and achieved third place in the competition; in the charts he had a number one hit. The second album Malinconoia could also reach the first place in the charts. After a tour and a short break, the musician released his third album T'innamorerai in 1993 , which contained the hit Vaffanculo , which was much criticized for its vulgarity . The fourth album Il cielo della vergine , which again reached the top of the chart in 1995, contained lyrically very explicit songs such as Bella stronza and Principessa . The first compilation, L'amore sia con te, followed in 1996 .
Masini founded the Ma.Ma. label together with Mario Manzani and Marco Poggioni . , on which he released his next album Scimmie in 1998. From here on, the musician appeared with a different look and a more rock-heavy style. The Christmas single Il giorno di Natale (Il giorno più banale) in 1999 was a return to its beginnings. Masini returned to Sanremo in 2000 with Raccontami di te without much success and then released the album of the same name. In 2001 he had Uscita di sicurezza follow. But Masini's career suffered severely from the lack of active marketing by BMG Ricordi and the predominantly negative media coverage of him. In April 2001, the singer announced that he would withdraw from the business.
But in October 2003 Masini returned to the limelight with the independent label MBO Music with the compilation Il mio cammino . In 2004 he again took part in the Sanremo Festival with L'uomo volante and won the competition. He then published Masini! , a new edition of Il mio cammino . His first live album came out of an extensive European tour at the end of the year. In 2005 Masini started again in Sanremo with Nel mondo dei sogni . The song found space on the following album Il giardino delle api . In 2006 he worked with Umberto Tozzi and brought out the collaboration album Tozzi / Masini , on which the two musicians interpreted each other's songs and sang duets. They also went on tour together.
Together with Beppe Dati, Masini was responsible for the musical theater Il brutto anatroccolo in 2007 . With the song L'Italia he finally appeared again at the 2009 Sanremo Festival . This was followed by the album L'Italia… e altre storie and in 2010 the anniversary live album Un palco lungo… 20 anni . In 2011 the next studio album Niente d'importante was released , in 2013 the compilation La mia storia… piano e voce , on which Masini presented his songs in very reduced arrangements for piano and voice. In 2014 he signed a new record deal with Sony and in 2015 he competed for the sixth time with Che giorno è in the main category of the Sanremo Festival. This was followed by the 3-CD compilation Cronologia .
At the Sanremo Festival 2017 Masini appeared again and presented the song Spostato di un secondo . A studio album of the same name and a live album followed. At the Sanremo Festival 2018 he appeared on one evening as the duet partner of the participant Red Canzian . For his 30th stage anniversary, he finally entered the race again in Sanremo with Il confronto in 2020 and published the compilation Masini +1 - 30th Anniversary .
