Giovanni Caccamo (born December 8, 1990 in Modica ) is an Italian singer and songwriter. It was discovered by Franco Battiato and is produced by Caterina Caselli . He gained greater fame in 2015 when he won the Sanremo Festival in the Newcomer category.

biography

Beginnings

Caccamo started singing at an early age and made his first public appearance in 2001 at the Zecchino d'Oro . In 2009 he oversaw the RAI telecast MusicGate . In 2010 he took part in the castings for X Factor , but left during the home visits phase . After smaller jobs at RAI, such as VJ , Caccamo applied for the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival 2012, but did not make it into the final phase. In the summer of 2012 Franco Battiato became aware of the singer and Caccamo was able to perform as the opening act on Battiato's Apriti-Sesamo tour. He then released his first single L'indifferenza in 2013 and had various smaller appearances across Italy as well as in Fiorello TV shows .

October 2014 Caccamo signed a recording contract with the Italian label Sugarmusic of Caterina Caselli . In 2015 he took part in the Sanremo Festival and won the newcomer category with the song Ritornerò da te ; He also received the Critics 'Prize, the Emanuele Luzzati Prize and the Journalists' Prize. At the same time, Malika Ayane won third place and the critics' award in the main category with the song Adesso e qui (nostalgico presente) co-written by Caccamo .

In April he performed with Biagio Antonacci and in June he took part in the Coca-Cola Summer Festival . For the Pixar short film Lava , Caccamo worked with Malika Ayane as voice actor. Other own songs and songwriting for Deborah Iurato , Francesca Michielin and Emma Marrone followed . At the Sanremo Festival 2016 , the singer appeared for the first time in the main category, in a duet with Deborah Iurato; with Via da qui they reached third place. He then released the album Non siamo soli . At the Sanremo Festival 2018 , Caccamo presented Eterno , which reached tenth place and preceded the album of the same name.
